Well, I'm surprised. I expected more hating on Doom 3 in this topic than there actually ended up being. The ironic thing is that the anti-Doom 3 kids are more mindless in their criticisms of it than they claim the gameplay is!

Seriously though, most of it is because it's "in fashion" to hate on Doom 3 these days.

aka---It has always been "in fashion" to hate on Doom3. Few people loved it, most were quite disappointed.

Chronicles of Riddick is one of the most underrated games of all time! The Xbox version looked OUTSTANDING, and the PC version is even better.

the PC version is much better than the xbox (or so i read), considering the gfx, fps doesn't slow down and it has an extra level (or two).

Riddick beat out the excellent Thief-DS & HL2 in my "book" as my GotY!

Which is, of course, why it got great reviews all around, and why everyone liked it when it first came out, right?

It did get great reviews, but everyone did not like it. Many were initially impressed with the graphics, but soon they realized the gameplay was repetitive and too predictable.

I've tried playing HL2 many time, but I just cannot play it for more than 10 minutes without getting sick. It is pretty decent up to where I am at, the first airboat ride, although I'm not really sure why I am running from point to point.

post some links to a "good" doom iii review - if you can still find one . . . . :p
one that didn't come out the same week as doom iii did (rushed and overimpressed with the gfx) ;)

They are both quite different games (as FPS can be different anyway). I guess I had some fun with both, but prefered HL2.

Doom3 has a different graphics style which I still liked, but was mostly set indoors in cramped environs and had rather predictable suprise attacks. ;) HL2 has a few different environs.

Ok, didn't answer your question, though. :D
