I think neither is a bad choice, they are both well known brands.

One thing you might consider with USR, and thats that 3Com has sold or will sell their modem division (USR) and that will leave some questions about support.

I can't say for sure about external but I had a internal Zoom that I wouldn't let my dog take a squat on. It had slow connects 33,333 and lower. When it connected higher would get disconnectd within first five minutes. I bought Supra problems disappeared. Connected 49,999 every time there after.

Just my .000002 cents.

Without specific model details I can't really say without lack of justification, but USR / 3Com are a much larger company and thus have poured a lot more moola into reseach, which in my book usually results in faster transfer speeds... also, I've had a few 3Coms in the past and their reliability is top notch.

This really depends upon what technology your ISP supports. If they use 3com(USR) modems in their servers, then it would be a good bet that the 3Com modems would perform well in this environment. If they use Lucent chipsets in their modems, then Zoom or any other modem that uses this chipset should work well. I have personally owned both Zoom (with Lucent chipsets), and 3Com-USR modems and my ISP seems to work better with the 3Com-USR modems. Just my thoughts!!

it sounds like USR is better but USR was sold to 3COM. not sure if thats good or bad. i think i'll go with Zoom since it is cheaper and the other reviews say it is better
