Impossible to say. With the right steppings, the 146. Personaly all in all, I think 144's tend to have a higher overclock. But 146's with the right steppings go the highest.

Statistically, both should yield the same % of overclock. However, it's less stressful on the MB and RAM to overclock with the 146 because of the 10x multiplier. Also, running above 2.6GHz with the 144 will probably require the use of a 2:3 memory divider, which will cost about 50MHz core speed.

The 10x multiplier isn't always that useful. I have to use something lower anyway on my 146 to get my best overclock. It tops out around 2.8ghz on 10x for some reason.

That being said, the 146s seem to overclock better on average from what I've seen.

Not only the multiplier advantage, but also 146 will have a better chance to hit 3GHz. Very tough for an 144.

It depends what you're after, the highest frequency or the biggest overclock. The 146, because of its multiplier advantage, will on average, reach a slightly higher top speed. The 144, because of its lower starting default, will usually achieve the biggest overclock.

For intstance, a 146 overclocked to 3GHz and a 144 overclocked to 2.8GHz are both 1GHz overclocks. However, the 146 is a 50% overclock where as the 144 is a 56% overclock.

Your need for speed will depend on what your main end use is & your budget. If it's games, the difference between 2.8Ghz & 3GHz wont be that significant. So bang for buck, the 144 is a better buy.
