I've been playing the second one- Bound in Blood, and I am loving it. I really didn't like the first one (never did finish it either). Definitely the better of the two. I've also played some MP, but they really need some dedicated servers. The lack of dedicated servers hurts the MP component. MP is very fun though if you can find a decent server. I hope Ubisoft doesn't ruin a [what could be] an awesome MP experience.

Just read the review at 1UP, they mention it's way better than the first one. Can't wait to buy this one when it comes into stores where I stay.

Yes. Some reviews I've read say it's more an Action game then a FPS b/c of the story and linear gameplay.

There are no dedicated servers for the MP?? Freaking UBISOFT does it again. The MP trailers look awesome, but I guess those must be console trailers instead of PC trailers.

Interesting interview: http://www.pcgameshardware.com...h-the-developers/News/

They gave a great answer too:

PCGH:If you develop special PC build of Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood, what are your reasons to do so? What technical features can only be realized with the PC as platform? What are the main differences between the Console and the PC Version as far as general technical aspects as well as the visuals of the DX9 render path is concerned?

Techland: We don't have a special build for the PC platform. We try to have the same feature set on all platforms.

WTF? FPS has to do with perspective and the emphasis on shooting, not story or linear gameplay.

I just started the second one and I never played the first, but something seems off. God I hate the one on one showdowns. When I go for my gun half the time its like it doesnt register, and most of the time I shoot the guy in the leg and he gets me. I'm in act 4, and the last two times I did the showdowns it took like 10 times each.

The game also seems to run slow. I have a Q6600@3Ghz, 4GB RAM and 8800GT using the balanced settings at 1360x768 (or 1680x1050) and its just not as smooth as it should be. This is the first PC game I've played since COD4, and the first on Vista 64, but how is it running on your systems?

Other than the above, I kinda like it. The story is kinda weak, but a Western FPS is hard not to like. I just wish a traditional PC FPS company made it. It feels like a 360 game running in an emulator on a PC.

the quickdraw stuff is definitely lame. instead of redesigning the mechanic that was obviously designed for a gamepad, they just said fuck it. it basically takes my mouse sensitivity down from 10 to -1000, and your hand won't stay near your gun without constant mouse movement (obviously it was designed so you'd have to hold a control stick constantly, which you can't replicate with a mouse). and the autoaim is retarded.

otherwise it's an ok game. runs fine for me, e7200@3.3ghz, 8800GT, 2GB. 1680x1050, forced vsync and 2x AA, everything maxed except for the two shadow settings which are down a notch. havn't tried it with them up, i just always turn shadows down since they're typically a big performance killer without adding much.

I disagree in most respects. I've played (or tried to play) console ports like Gears of War. An absolute bitch to control on a pc. I've steered clear of games like Dead Space because of it. The quickdraw stuff does kind of suck, but that's about it.

3rd person console ports are an unfair comparison, because my experience has been that they're effectively impossible to to control without a gamepad. if you're going to put an FPS on the PC, though, it needs to work properly with a mouse and keyboard.

Would you agree the only awkwardness is the quickdraw?

I updated my drivers and the performance issues I was seeing completely went away. It turned out to be a fairly short game, which isnt always a bad thing. The game said around 6 hours, but it felt longer. The last level was a killer, but overall it was a decent game. If they didnt have the quickdraw mechanic, it would have been great.

Completely disagree. it's about the same as an FPS, especially in aiming for ranged combat.

I don't know that I could say one game is "better" than the other. I really enjoyed the first (albeit with some glaring annoyances) and am enjoying the second one as well (with its own set of annoyances).

In terms of pick up and play/accessibility, however, I'd give a distinct edge to Bound in Blood. The stealth and whip aspects of the first game made it almost unbearable at times (how many times can you fall off a cliff because you didn't swing 100% where the game wanted you before you save/exit and punch your beloved family pet?), and the developers have wisely learned from those mistakes.

I had issues with the duels at first, but have pretty much figured it out to the point that I might die once (as opposed to 25 times or so in a row when I was trying to figure it out) before I gun down my opponent. I think they're actually fun... prefer the duels in BiB to the first COJ.

Overall, both games have their high and low points. If you haven't played the first one, there's really no reason not to pick it up for the $7 or so that it is. The game is worth it just for listening to Ray.

Yes, the second one is better. Looks better too. Lots, and lots of language though, which is annoying. But their chit chat back and forth is good. Varying levels too, its not the same thing over and over.

do you still have to use both mouse buttons for each gun?

That would be a "yes".

Unless your second mouse button is jump...

I enjoyed the first game and didn't really agree with most the reviews I read when it came out. I just ordered Bound in Blood from gogamer on friday, so i'll let you know how that one is. But if it's anything like the original i'm sure i'll like it.

One thing that did influence my decision to buy the game is the lack of DRM on the retail disc. Just like Prince of Persia (also published by Ubisoft), Bound in Blood has zero DRM, not even a serial number. This is important to me because it means I won't have to deal with any potential hassles in the future, like install limits or online authentication. And to me that alone is worth supporting.
