I overclock the P4 1.6A on an Abit IT7. The system is stable at the following settings:

150 FSB 3:4 memory ratio (3DMark2001: 1471, Sandra memory: 2993 MB/s, Sandra CPU: 4424 MIPS)

167 FSB 1:1 memory ratio (3DMark2001: 1465, Sandra memory: 2466 MB/s, Sandra CPU: 5024 MIPS)

I am wondering which one has better overall performance? I am going to use this system for video editing and mpeg2/divx encoding. Thanks.

actually even for gaming, 167 FSB 1:1 memory ratio has an advantage. mostly cause you can run Cas2/2/2 easily at that speed.

Thank you for the responses. I will use 167 FSB. The side effect is that I have to increase vcore from 1.5 to 1.7v. The cpu temperature will raise from 52 degree C to 60 degree C under load (DRAM voltage unchanged at 2.5v.)

Just curious, what kind of application will be benifited from the higher memory ration but lower FSB? Thanks.

Quake 3 does!!!:p

All encoding that I have done...mpeg2,divx, and mp3....any capturing, have enjoyed more raw cpu power then the memory speed.

I would look at getting a different hsf then for the heat. I wouldn't feel to great about the 60c.

I run 1.6@2.66 with 1.66v and I see highs top at 52c...I use a 20 dollar hsf and some AS2.
