Okay, I found the Viewsonic P95f online for a total of roughly $291 (shipping included), and I found the Sony CPD-E440/B online for $300 (free shipping), and the NEC FE991SB is $220 on Dell with free 3-5day delivery. I am sure a lot of you are aware of the features and niceties of these monitors, and I am desperately seeking them out in stores. I had a similar poll in General Hardware, but this one is revised and in what I think is the right spot for it. Could you please respond after voting, with a clear explanation why you chose the one you did? I don't have much money, so it has to be worth my money...hopefully I can get a job soon but my monitor is going bad (7 years old!) so it is fairly urgent. I am a little partial to that Viewsonic because of its reputation, and the NEC FE991SB because of my own experience with NEC monitors, and the fact that I saw a SuperBright Diamondtron monitor @ Best Buy (17" but still same tube technology) and it looked good.

Bump for more votes! I will be checking to see what is at Circuit City today as well. I know its a Sony, but does anyone have a real good reason WHY it is better than the P95f? Well this Sony is $300 w/ free shipping online (one site though) and I found the P95f off of CDW at $291 (Shipping was included in this cost) so I suppose I should go for the $300 Sony. I am not sure about the NEC FE991SB, because people say it is awesome and then other people say it has blotchy text and poor image quality (or mediocre, as ZDNet put it).

Does anyone know of a P95f at a reputable site that is lower than a total of $291?

Well nothing was conclusive, and i'm buying the Sony one instead. I know I can't go wrong with that Sony monitor.

I got my E400 for $170 out the door, it's just a slightly older version of the same thing, but definately worth the price difference. I don't know if you can find one brand new for that anyway though.

I have the NEC FE991SB. I don't notice any "blurry" text as decribed by some reviewers and the color is good. If you don't mind the 2 horizontal lines that are visible in all aperture grille monitors, then it should be good. But if you have the $$$ to blow, get the Sony.

Well, I don't have money to blow. I might go and get the NEC FE991SB...I *might* get it. Is the OSD easy to use on the FE991SB, marvie? A good OSD is important to me, as well as readable text. I have no problems with adjusting to make a picture look good...but does the monitor really come looking like crap? I am still decided on the Sony CPD-E440/B, but I would go for that NEC monitor if I wanted to save a buck. I am actually partial to NEC monitors, its just that this Sony hasn't had anything bad said about it and the NEC Monitor has. I can't find them in stores, so I have to read up a lot and buy without seeing it. Which leads me to why I chose the Sony: some people said the image quality wasn't the greatest on the FE991SB, some said if you play mainly games then it is great but not for text and I do a lot of both things. It makes me worried that I could get one of these with a terrible image and then i'd have to go through the pain of returning the monitor. The Sony is $300 while the NEC FE991SB is $220.14 on Dell's store, but nobody has said anything terrible about it...absolutely no one. If you look at the reviews of it on Newegg you will see that is true. So, if I'm going to purchase a good monitor with the least likelihood of having to be returned, the Sony CPD-E440/B seems to be the best choice. If anyone can prove otherwise, then by all means I would love to know.

For that price you are getting, I think the NEC is a pretty good deal. I've bought mine for about $240 shipped last January. Enjoy!

NEC's generally have a terrible User interface on there OSD. I had a fe950 + that was a pain to set. Now NEC/Mitsu lets you download a program called NaviSet that allows you make adjustments from windows via the display properties. Much easier IMHO to change all the settings. Check out NaviSet when you get your new NEC.

O, BTW I have owned several NEC's over the years and I have never has a problem nor been unsatisfied.... Currently using LCD-1860NX Black
