If you game at 1680x1050 and want max AA and max AF all the eye candy which card to get

1. 4780
or
2. Gtx260

The most I can spend it about $440

Early benchmarks that have been leaked show the 4870 out-pacing the gtx260 even with AA/AF enabled.

So I say go with a 4870.

After seeing some of the 4850 reviews, I've been thinking the same thing. I'm in the same exact situation as zod96 here, but I've been so busy with work I haven't had the time to answer the question for myself yet. Just kinda waiting for all the cards to settle into the market and for the 260/280(/9800gtx+?) vs 4850/4870 reviews. I like big reviews =)

expect gtx 280 prices to sink to the $450 range some time in between 4870 and 4870x2 release. THAT is the $440 ish card to buy imho if you can wait long enough for it to get that low.

oops, missed the 1680x1050 comment. Wait for 4870/gtx260 comparisons and get the one with best price/performance. Don't get a 9800gtx(+), you'd be better off with an oc edition 4850 with a dual slot cooler.
