Which (old) graphics card has the best 2D? PCI or AGP.

Don't really care about 3d. Not going to be playing any Quake3 or anything.

Looking for a good 2d card. Needs to be low power consumption for SS7 if AGP..The older and cheaper, the better. :)

I'll assume a Matrox card. Which one? G400? G200?

TIA. :)

I've used both the G200 and the G400 and can't tell the difference between them for 2D. They are both beautiful. Another great one is the old Matrox Millenium II. You can usually find those for under $20 on the forums or eBay and their 2D is crisp and clear and you get a variety of memory options too (4mb, 8mb, 16mb...) and your choice of AGP or PCI

depends on what 2D requirements you have

Just looks really.. Nice and crisp in windows. :)

It's kinda sad that I would even spend money on this K6-3/400 that I built in '99. :Q Let alone for a downgrade.. lol. I'm using a Creative Labs RivaTNT1 right now. Hopefully the 2D difference would even be noticable.

Actually, I should be looking for a new HDD to replace this 2 year old IBM 75GXP Deathstar I have...

It's amazing it's still alive, considering their track record.

Haven't used a Matrox card in an older machine but the 2d with a Voodoo3 wasn't bad. Also, I think cooling/airflow has a lot to do with the longevity of these drives. Knock on wood - you must be doing something right. Good luck.........................

Ahh, interesting.

My case cover has never been on, maybe that has something to do with it... But the drive is sandwitched between two other drives, and the heat is definately noticable when I touch them..

Just hope it lasts another year or so. :p

I recently hooked up the same monitor DELL P1110 to my old Matrox millenium 2 that I had on my Voodoo 4 4500 and I was absolutely stunned how good the Matrox was....

any matrox card, pretty much any ATI card, and any 3dfx card should give decent 2d. Old TNT or TNT2 cards probably have the worst 2D of anf card I have used

Heh, there was a G200 on eBay that went for 6$ + 5$ shipping, but I missed it by a few minutes.
