Samsung Galaxy S5 or HTC One (M8)?

The S5 looks like it has a faster CPU and longer battery life, but the HTC One (M8) has two front speakers on each side. That single rear speaker of the S5 makes sound come out from one side only in addition to giving lower quality sound.

They both have Snapdragon 801. I don't think the clock speed difference will make a noticeable impact on games and I believe the GPU speed is the same for both.

Games would look nice on that S5 AMOLED display. But sound better on the M8.

Maybe the M8 will be easier to hold while gaming because of those bigger bezels on the top and bottom.

Strictly for gaming, I would go with the M8. Samsung's on-bezel keys can lead to accidental taps, especially when playing games. Also the sound will be significantly better on the M8.

I have no idea what that means, but it sounds important. HTC One M8, take my money!

The S5 has it's navigation buttons (recent apps and back keys) on the bottom bezel, the same bezel one will typically hold while playing a mobile game. Sometimes this leads to accidental taps, which can interrupt your gaming.

Now I don't have an M8, but on the G3 I've noticed most games do tend to hide the software nav buttons, but if there are some that don't you can manually force them to hide in specific apps/games.

What difference is there in the display?

Galaxy S5 uses a Super AMOLED display. This means it will have very dark blacks and capable of more vibrant colors.
The One M8 uses a typical IPS display, still very good colors, but not as vibrant as AMOLED and it can't get is black as AMOLED.

I just need some reassurance, are the HTC One (M8) speakers of high quality sound or just bigger/better placed?

Works for me. I don't even like black (no racism).

They sound good and they are better placed. They're pointing towards you, and they're on both sides of the device so you get nice, evenly distributed sound, unlike non-stereo speaker phones where one side will sound louder than the other.

The downside to this is much more bezel. It's up to you if that's a big deal or not.

Hello everyone. Just want to say I just bought the s5 instead. The extra CPU clocks were just irresistible.

Anyway, I'm having a problem, how do you move games from one phone to the other? I can find the .apk file, but non of the files it downloaded. I mean to what location does an android game download its data to?

Hey wait a second, I just noticed I have 2 CPUs, one running at 1.9Ghz and the other at 1.3Ghz. What the hell is this? All the reviews said it was 2.5Ghz CPU?

The a7 cpu's run upto 2.5ghz while the a15 cpu's run upto 1.5ghz or so, if you're idling then they're downclocked. Shouldn't of picked a phone based on its cpu speed, that 200mhz is meaningless.

Scratch that, I mean there's 8 cores and they run at 1.3Ghz max (this is according to System Info Droid app).
Again, what the hell is this?

So you're telling me my games are gonna run at 1.5Ghz max? Why the hell didn't anyone tell me this before? Considering most games don't even use more than one or 2 cores, this was kinda important.

Maybe you should of done some research on how these cpu's work before picking a phone based on its cpu?

Seems like you have the non-LTE version of the S5 which uses a Samung Exynos 5422 chip (vs the LTE version which uses Snapdragon 801). Unfortunately the Samsung Exynos is worse for games as GPU is quite slower than the one Snapdragon uses.

More info in review here: http://www.techspot.com/review/839-galaxy-s5-exynos-vs-snapdragon/

Got it. I'll return the S5 right away and do what I should have done, get the M8. (there's only one version of the M8 right?)

Note to self: Never buy any of Samsung's garbage again.

And I can't believe this pos was actually more expensive than the M8.

Not sure with cpu on M8, but looks like only uses Snapdragon on gsmarena site (saw 3 versions: cdma, LTE and dual sim. All had same cpu.). Hopefully someone else can confirm. Only reason I know about Samsung as made the same mistake with their tablet.

Where did you buy it from? All of the US variants use Snapdragon 801 IIRC.

The HTC one m8 should have included a better camera. I hope the next variant will do that.
