I need a new HD around 200gb, I've been looking at these two..

1) Seagate Barracuda 7200.8 250GB SATA 8MB 7200RPM NCQ

2) Samsung SpinPoint P SP2004C 200GB SATA-II 8MB

I'm not after the latest and greatest one, but I do want one that is best bang for the buck, so fast, quiet and reliable are the main things I'm looking for. I know Seagate are good as I have two already, but does anyone have a Samsung or have opinions on them?

Thanks :)

cant go wrong with either. i'd choose the seagate because of it's reliablity, warranty(5), and overall performance. samsung has good overall performance too, and should be more a quieter drive than the seagate.

Yea, according to this review, the Samsung looks pretty damn good for it's price but then the Seagate has reliability and warranty but comes at a premium. tough choice.

Go with the Maxtor MaXLine III 300GB you can get them for about the same price:

http://www.maxtor.com/portal/site/Maxto...Storage/MaXLine%20Family/MaXLine%20III

I have used 3 different versions of Maxtors as I have upgraded into bigger sizes over the past 5 years. I have run for 5 years a dual boot PC, Windows/Linux. I have beat my hard drives to hell, reformatting over and over month after month when I was playing with Linux trying different versions. Plus I run my PC 24/7 and spend on average, for the past 5 years 70 hours a week on it and in 5 years Maxtor has never let me down once ever and that my friend is one tough deal to beat. So for me I continue to buy Maxtor and just bought last week the Maxline 300GB SATA drive with a 16MB cache for my new board as I move from my Diamond10 160GB which has been a dream to run and so smooth.

And the Maxline comes with a 5 year warranty too. :)

Thanks, I was also looking at the Maxtor DiamondMax 10 250GB SATA 16MB 7200RPM NCQ actually, which falls inbetween the Samsung and Seagate pricewise but I've also read of quite a lot of people having bad experiences with Maxtors too.

A lot of people have bad experiences with all of them. All hard drives at one time or another have their ups and downs.

Anyhow just my 2 cents worth. :)
