Which of these three games are worth getting?

Alright, I'm considering Street Fighter 4, Soul Calibur 4, and DBZ: Burst Limit.

I currently haven't played any fighting games before with the exception of Super Smash Bros. 64 and Super Smash Bros. Melee for the Gamecube, and of course I liked those two.

Which of those three games should i get(or should i get them all)?

Keep in mind, I'm a DBZ anime fan, but haven't played a Street Fighter, Soul Calibur, or DBZ game before.

Since I haven't played Burst Limit, I'm gonna rule that one out for this decision

Based on experience with SF4 and SC4, I'm going to say I found SF4 to be much more entertaining because of its complexity. SC4 I didn't know what the hell kind of moves to pull off.

Wait, you think SF4 is more complex when you couldn't even pull off moves in SC4?

Their both pretty solid fighting games OP, and I like them both for different reasons. I would suggest renting or borrowing both to get a feel for each and see which one you like better. My choice right now is SF4 because I've always liked the SF games better and this one doesn't stray far from the classic controls.

I'm going with SC4, but that's because I've never "gotten" the whole Street Fighter series. Definitely agree with renting first.

personally i think soul calibur's fighting engine sucks.

sf4 no questions asked.

dbz i've seen my younger brother in law playing and it seems like it's aimed a lot more at little kids than not. i guess what i'm trying to say is it's not very complex and has a really basic fighting engine.

I haven't played either SF4 or SC4 yet, but I really liked SC2 (3 was only for the PS2). If SC4 is close to SC2 I'd probably buy it.

I just purchased SF4 and havn't tried it yet, so my thoughts could change.

Street Fighter 4. Pretty easy decision to make. 😉

Street Fighter is a far superior series to Soul Calibur. Unless you are specifically looking for weapons combat or...endowed females, Street Fighter is all-around better in every way, shape and form.

And DBZ? LOL! Unless you're a big DBZ fan, steer clear.

That's a bit of a biased opinion. I never liked SF2 as a kid. I mean, it was alright, but didn't really bring anything new to the table. On the flip side I LOVED SC1/2. I've yet to play the 4th of either game though, so I reserve final judgement until then, but saying that SF is an overall better series...not everyone shares that opinion.

Of course, Tekken 3 > all (see, I can do it to...although this time it IS true! 😛 )

My vote is for SF4. I remember being a teenager with nothing to do, sitting around with freinds, smoking weed, getting drunk, and having SF tournaments. My buddy was so cheap with Guile.

Street Fighter 2 created the fighting game genre. You said, "didn't really bring anything new to the table"? It CREATED the table!

Were you a kid when Street Fighter 2 was actually new? If you were, you'd realize how revolutionary Street Fighter 2 was. Without Street Fighter 2, there'd be no Mortal Kombat, there'd be no Tekken, there'd be no Soul Calibur, etc.

But! That is not the point of this thread. 😉

I can't help but recommend the best, and the best is Street Fighter 4.

Nonono, Kung Fu for the original created fighting games! You are gravely mistaken!

Yeah, I was in elementary school when SF2 came out, maybe that makes me too young to appreciate it.

That's a nice bit of exaggeration, but it's nowhere near true. I think it would be more correct to say that it massively popularized it, and innovated tremendously within it.

I always found the combo system in Street Fighter too complex and arbitrary to get good at it, but that was just SF2. Haven't played SF4. However, having played several fighting games, the SC series seems the most noob-friendly, and the only one I've played where you can pull off special moves without having to memorize dozens of button sequences.

Obviously SF is for people who are really into competitive fighting games, but SC is better for pick-up-and-play fun.

i'd have to disagree.

sf2 DEFINED the 1v1 fighting genre.

TBH DBZ: Burst limit and SF4 look way too similar:

DBZ:BL

SF4

Both have those charge meters on the bottom and both have characters shooting kamehamehas/fireballs at each other, the only difference I can tell is the backgrounds and the type of characters.

I agree with purbeast about SF2

since you played Super Smash Bros., if you really liked that, I think you will like the DBZ game (not sure about Burst Limit), but the previous DBZ game I played at a friend's house was all about button mashing, and little controller motions + button like what SF is.

I bought SC4, and I got bored quickly. I love SC1 and 2. You may like it as it gives you a 3d fighting environment, while SF is side scrolling. I don't think it brought anything new or exciting in game mechanics with SC. Take this with caution though, as I got bored and stopped after playing 3 hours and haven't picked it up again.

Personally, I like SF, due to the complex moves and combos

I think you need to ask yourself what kind of game play you like.

Do you like button mashing and simple controller movements? - DBZ
button sequence and little controller motions? - SC and Tekken
more controller motions and some buttons? - SF

I love fighting games. I did actually like SC4 quite a bit but the laggy online killed it.

SF4 is GOTY. Get it...so fun

what kind of question is this?

soul calibur is one of the worst fighting game series ever, and 4 is one of the worst of the series. It has no depth, poor character designs, and its a button mashers paradise. not even worth renting.

Street Fighter IV is excellent. its not the best SF game ever (SF3:3rd strike and alpha 2/3 are better), but its a great game. Its much better than i expected it to be.

If you dont have it already, you should get Virtua Fighter 5. still the best fighting game on any current gen console. and its old, and thus dirt cheap now.

Also keep an eye out for King of Fighters XII, supposedly coming out this summer in japan on PS3. its looks EXCELLENT (better than SF4 from what ive seen).

Tekken Dark Resurrection. Best fighting game hands down. Hopefully Tekken 6 for the 360 and PS3 does it justice.

SF2 defined 2d 1v1 fighting genre. Virtua Fighter 2 defined 3d 1v1 fighting genre. I still think VF5 is the best fighting game period.

I got SF4 last night and did not like it at all, but that's all for opinion reasons.

If you're really looking to pick it up I just posted it in the FS/FT forums.

SF4 and DBZ are nothing alike. At best, DBZ is a cheap imitation of a fighting game cashing in on the DBZ license.

SF4 is the real deal.

Why not rent both and see which one you prefer?
