Which of these sound cards is most preferred?

How a gift becomes a curse:

Got lucky with the acquisition-at a considerable bargain-of Klipsch's 5.1 THX speaker set. I'd heard them on another system and was blown away. And I always thought that my own card, Fortissimo II, supported 5.1-and it does, but only digital, not analog which is just the sort of connection required for the Klipsch.

So I must upgrade sound card to one with analog 5.1 support; sadly am limited to these options-friend's retail discount:

Philips Seismic Edge 5.1-Channel Surround Sound Card ? PSC705
Philips Sonic Edge 5.1-Channel Sound Card ? PSC605
Creative Labs Sound Blaster Live! Dolby Digital 5.1 Audio Card ? SB0060US

Thoughts?

For music, either of the Philips cards, with emphasis on the Seismic Edge. The Creative SB Live! is pretty old.

None, get a Santa cruz.

You know, as a courtesy, it would be nice if more people READ the message to which they reply...I have only the above 3 to choose from. If you're going to be so arrogant as to just ignore that and promote what you like, then you're not helping anyone.

My two cents.

I think he had a valid point. Maybe if you explained why you list only 3, as opposed to a larger list with better choices, then you would get more focused responses.

Again, if you had read his original post, you'd see that the reason he listed three was because his friend can get him a retail discount on those three cards.

I have no opinion on those three cards (other then sticking to a phillips card because it's newer), I'd normally suggest Santa Cruz, but that's not a choice for you.

I'm sorry if it offends you but I did not see the post about your friend can get you those cards at discounted prices. The Santa cruz can be had at 50ish or 40ish if you look hard enough. And no, I don't have a santa cruz and I use a SB live

Of the cards you've listed, I'd pick the Seismic Edge. Just as good as the Acoustic Edge since they're all using the Thunder Avenger DSP now.

The Santa Cruz is a good card too, but there are just some things the Philips cards do much better, namely gaming and 5.1 support.

FWIW, I bought a Phillips Seismic Edge from a computer reseller off Ebay - brand new. Paid $23 including shipping. When I was looking, there were lots available. I've been happy with it, but I don't use the surround sound feature. But I do listen to Mp3's through a stereo system and it sounds nice. The cheapest price I could find on Pricewatch was $50 not including shipping. So it may be something to check out. Good luck.

I have the sound blaster live on my computer. When I built my sons computer I managed to get the Seismic Edge for abt $20 shipped. There's no contest - Seismic edge wins hands down.

Hope this helps.
