I have been doing alot of reading and am not all that optimistic about OCZ ram compatibility.
But it has a nice price point compared to the only other good mid range ram i can get from my local store --
Corsair TWIN2X2048-6400C4 2GB(2x1GB) PC6400 DDR2-800 CL 4-4-4-12 240PIN Dual Channel Memory Kit @ 370$ cdn
vs a much wider selection of these OCZ memory modules:
http://www.canadacomputers.com/ocz/#
specifically, i am looking at
OCZ (OCZ2SOE8002GK) DDR2 PC2-6400 2GB kit (2x1024) Dual channel Special Ops Edition 800MHz @250$ cdn
or,
OCZ (OCZ2P800R22GK) DDR2 PC2-6400 2GB (2x1024MB) Platinum Revision 2 XTC Dual Channel Kit @278$ CDn
"these modules turn out heart-pounding 4-5-4 timings with flawless performance and stability"
Since i am having a hard time deciding on a MB, perhaps looking at ram compatibility will make it easier.
So will the above OCZ ram work well in a asus p5w-dh, asus p5b-deluxe or asus p5n32-E sli? Or if not, perhaps there is a gigabyte DS6 board that will..?
At most i would only look for a 10-20% overclock using an e6600 cpu/ evga 8800 GTS ( ihave given up o the idea of sli for the future --just need an extra 16x pci-e slot for a physics solution.
