I have two choices. 6600GT 128MB

And a 6800XT 256 MB

6600 GT GDDR3 NV43 500 900/1000 8 3 128-bit -- Inno 3D

6800 XT NV40/NV42 325 1.0GHz 8 4 256-bit -- XFX

Not so easy to say, but an highly overclocked 256mb 6800xt 256bit may beat a 128mb 6600GT 128bit

why don't you get a 7300GT GDDR3 instead?

look for benchies? an ordirnary 6800xt may be worse than a 6600gt or about eqivalent

I know for a fact that the 6800NU is almost exactly equivalent to the 6600GT, until you turn on the high textures to the point of unplayability - then it beats out the 6600GT.

I believe the 6800XT is a bit slower than the NU, but doesn't it use the same core? If so, it should be a fairly good overclocker, and you have a chance of it unlocking, allowing it to reach 6800GT performance levels.

The 256-bit pipeline will also help out the 6800XT.

Go for the 6800XT, if you're not afraid to overclock/unlock. If you are, though, I believe the 6600GT would be faster.

What price range are you looking at?

I would get the 6800XT. 128MB will severely hamper you these days.

The 6600GT has the faster core, and so will give better performance if not limited by its 128bit 128MB GDDR3, i.e. 1024x768 res & medium detail.

The stronger memory subsystem of the 6800XT should allow it to pull even/ahead as resolution/detail increases, so it should be better for hi-res/hi-detail on older games, but either card will struggle with the latest titles.

6600GT is a pretty safe 10% overclocker. 6800XT can probably exceed 10% overclocks, plus there's the chance of unlocking pipelines: all-in-all a bigger gamble.

6800xt. esp cuz of the 256 mb. that way you can have higher resolution textures that significantly improve quality. also considering the specs a slight OC on the core clock should help to kick the 6600gt even more.

6800xt. its like comparing an x1800xt to a x1900xt, or a 7600 to a 7900... etc
no brainer
