Which of these CPU/mb/memory combos is the fastest?

I'm looking to buy a "sweet spot" level system that is going to give me the most value/performance for my dollar today. I'm going to be doing about 70% gaming and the rest normal business application stuff.

I may try some light over-clocking but nothing extensive.

So here's my question... with all other components being equal....which one of these two CPU/mobo/memory platforms will give me the fastest overall performance?

1) AMD Athlon XP 2400+
ASUS A7N8X Deluxe
512kb Corsair XMS-3500 DDR

or

2) P4-2.4mhz 533fsb
Gigabyte GA-8IHXP
512Kb PC800 Rambus RDRAM

Thanks for your help.

i'd go with amd over intel because intel uses PC800
PC800 rdram cannot provide the bandwidth for the 533mhz bus
my vote is with the AMD system

i dont think you'll get too far either way with half a meg of ram
:D

if you overclock the p4 by 3 o 400 mhz, then it'll probbaly give you the best performance. otehrwise if you're not into that stick with the amd

What if I used PC1066 with the P4 would that make up the differnce over the Athlon?

then ,the performance will be around the same, with athlon being faster in a few benchmarks and the p4 faster in a few benchmarks.
my vote will still go with amd because it is much economical due to the high cost of pc1066 rdram

That AMD Combo is begging for an overclock... Very nice memory there...

ya.. the cosair 3500 sticks just came out

But I just saw an article that say the OCZ memory is even better then the Cosair ;

Look here : high end memory shoot-out

Anyone use the OCZ's that can confirm these findings?

The P4 system with a 1066rdram stick i as fast as the AMD-system. I would like the previous ppl on this thread go for an
AMD-system mainly because of the lower prize enabling you to spend more money on a good graphics card.

Since the XP2400+ requires better cooling due to larger heatproduction many generic HSF combos a VERY loud.
Try to get a good heatsink with an 80mm Fan. There are some really quiet ones out there (<20dB).

Good luck

Yeah, I agree. AMD + Dual DDR = fast combo... that's as fast as you're gonna get with AMD like PC1066 and P4.

but it's alot cheaper.. :D PC1066 is quite a bit more.

I've just seen GEiL 466Mhz/PC3700 sticks on the web today!!
