Price is not a consideration, which of these 2 processors is better performance wise? Celeron 2ghz or a P4 1.7ghz? Would a person who mainly serves the net, plays an occasional game and mostly office work notice a difference?

Well the Celeron family are dogs performancewise, so if cost is not an object, stay away from them. But, I wouldn't really recommend the 1.7 either. All of the 1.7's are Willamette cores with the .18micron construction and 256k L2 cache. Any of the Northwood(0.13micron/512k L2) P4's are going to be better choices, even the 1.6 if you can find one.

But if these are your ONLY two choices, go with the 1.7.

4x4 is right...

Stay away from the Celeron's at all cost... Willamettes are not much better though either..

They had trouble with the Athlons, Northwood took care of that however..

P4 is the definite answer here unless you can choose something else.. Even a 1700+ NOT overclocked would work well...
