Which obsolete card would you use?

I have a Voodoo 3 3500 agp and a ATI all in wonder 128 pro ultra 32mb agp card. I was going to put one othe these cards in my brothers PC. It is a gateway 2000 with a PII 266 and 128mb ram & 60mb 7200 IBM disk w/ a PCI DMA 100 adaptor card. He playes minor 3d games like nascar 3 and quake 2. Which one is the better card. BTW the operating system is win95.

Although it would be close with the two falling in the same sort of performance bracket, the Voodoo3 is easily the faster card without a doubt, and the fact that its a 3500 version as opposed to the lower 2000 and 3000 will help out that bit more. It was easily the faster of the two in their day and I doubt much has changed now despite the fact that 3dfx aren't in existance any more.

Of course you gotta love the video processing abilities of the all-in-wonder ATI cards 🙂

If you want the sheer breadth of features from the AIW, or spend a lot of time with DVD's then ATi is the clear choice.
For almost anything else I'd prefer the V3 3500TV

I would go with the Voodoo 3 3500. With this system you will only be able to run games in 16 bit, so the 3dfx card will give you the most performance at that color resolution.

what he said. i suppose it also depends on what OS u use... but i would not try to run XP on that rig.

Well I have a comparable system... *P2 266 16 meg Vanta 196 megs of ram (was 256 until a chip burnt out) and 2 HDDs* XP runs OK... it's not as smooth as win2k was but it runs.. Comparing it to my mom's laptop *1.4 Celery 7500 Mobility Radeon 256 DDR ram* Windows XP runs 50x better with every thing turned on.

It's all in what he likes.. if he's going to use older 3d games, and doesn mind XP running a little slow then he should be fine with either video cards and the system.

If he's like me and choke the system for what it's worth until he tries to run games like Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 at full speed and detail, or UT2k3 (or any new game) he's going to find himself looking for new PC parts.

Definately the Voodoo3-3500. It's a much faster 16-bit color card and you'll have backward compatability with Glide.

I think current games will support the ATI card more than the Voodoo. If you come across a game that won't install, I'd try out the ATI🙂
