Hi..

I want to buy a video card for my kids' shuttle barebone XPC. Since it has only 200W power supply, I cannot have R9800 or R9700 or even R9500 that all requires more than or equal to 300W power supply. Would you guys tell me which nVidia chipset is equivalent ro Radeon 9600 Pro? Ti9600 was recommended here, but cannot get new one since it is discontinued.

Thank you so much.

If you can get a 9600 pro or a 9600XT, that's what I'd recommend, but if you can't, i'd recommend a 5700 Ultra. The 5600 Ultra's were
much slower than the 9600 series and even slower in DX9.

The FX5900 and FX5900 Ultra both have an additonal molex connector on them. I would imagine that if your shuttle can't power a Radeon 9500-9800, it won't handle an FX5900 either.

What I heard in the Internet is that there are people that installed and ran a 9800 Pro with Shuttle XPCs without a problem.

The 5700U is around the same speed except in shaders where it's a lot slower.

it's slower, uses more power, and no 5700 PCB will fit in a shuttle. Get the 9600pro.

You can definitely run like this; Tom's Hardware did this when the XPC first came out. The Shuttle "200W" PSUs actually have plenty of amps on the +12V line, and will easily power a 9800 or 5900 (assuming you can get the 5900 in there; they *do* fit, apparently, but it's very tight).

^Same. Shuttle mobos use less power than full-sized ones and there are fewer additional components than 'regular' PC's to draw power.

9700pro are great cards, much better than the 9600 series, and right now you an find them for about the same price as 9600pros and XTs.
