Two more:

4. Acceptance of ONE DVD +/- RW standard, and sub-$150 drives using that standard
5. Printers that accurately replicate $100 bills :)

I've been waiting to build my dream system for some time now. The following are what I'm waiting on:

1) Hammer... HAMMER!!!
2) RAID 5 Serial ATA (so I need both the card and the drives
3) NV30
4) A nice mobo for the Hammer

I know that the first mobos to come out for the Hammer will suck, so I have to wait until good ones start coming out. These are the things I'm waiting for.

1.) AMD Hammer

2.)Doom3

3.)SATA (optical + Magnetic) without a premium cost. All IDE cables belong in hell!

I asked for the SINGLE most-important new thing, and I'm getting lists! You people are driving me SANE!! ;) hehe

It's kinda hard to count the votes with the kinds of replies I got, but so far it sounds like xHammer, SATA, Hyperthreading, and DDR-II/QDR are the top votes. At least, the top REALISTIC votes. I thought I saw one vote for a psionic interface in there somewhere.

I may be off, but I thought Hyperthreading was an Intel thing, right? Guess I'd wait a REALLY long time for xHammer with Hyperthreading, hehe.

1) A CR-RW+DVD-RW Drive in one with a quiet fan! Speeds around 52x Read, 42x Burn, 24x Rewrite, 16x DVD Read, 12x DVD-Write.

2)Printer that copies $100. Yes, I really want one!

3)NV3x and ATI 9500 Pro

4) S-ATA Drives with 8MB Cache

5)Quiter Fans

6)More Micro-ATX only cases and mobos.

7)AMD Hammer (Thats atleast 2.4 Ghz and a 400mhz FSB)

8)JEDEC Standards for DDR-II

i'll be happy when 200gig hdd are the lowest size sold. but seems like that will take forever. (for cpu or video cards would take 2-3yrs for top of line to become bottom of line)

Well, if Moore's Law holds up, 240 GB hard drives should be around in about a year, I should think. ;)
