Which new monitor??

My Princeton EO70 17" monitor just died after only 4 years. The image quality wasn't great either. I now want to buy a new monitor, either a 17" or 19" model. I want good physical reliability as well as a good picture. The only problem is I can only aford to spend $330 for a monitor, including shipping. I have been thinking about the 17" Sony CPD-E210 from Onvia for $333.28 shipped. How is this monitor? I would really like to get a 19" of some kind if possible while still retaining good quality. Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

I would go for the Samsung 955DF (19") if I were in your shoes. It's only $297.94 from Onvia. Unfortunately it's not their latest and greatest (900NF), but I've seen a fair amount of people on this board that have had a good experience with it. Even if you don't get that monitor I would stay away from the Sony E series.

Thanks for the tip, I'll look into the Samsung. Out of curiosity, what's wrong with the Sony E series?

Any other monitor suggestions out there:)?

Nothing particularly wrong with them per se, but Sony likes charging a premium for their monitors. Quite simply - with the E series - you can get a better monitor for less money from another manufacturer. With the G series they are damn good monitors, but still have the price premium over their head. Finally, I would love to have a F500R, but would need to sell an organ to get one.

So the 955DF would have better image quality than the Sony e210? Sounds good to me if that's true.:)

Or would a $330 17" give me better quality than the Samsung?

i had the same problem a while back, i took a risk and bought an Elements (yeah i know, you are thinking who are they???) 19" monitor, its one of the least expensive on pricewatch. http://www.elements-pc.com I have had no problems with it, it seems to have very nice image quality, .26 dot pitch 80hz@1280x1024, only about 200+50 or so for shipping.

grifter: Does it have a power button? :). My friend got a element one too and it's alright I guess but my 900NF looks much better. And his doesn't have a power button...

I'd also recommend the 955DF. The only problem is the low refresh rates. Only 65hz@1600x1200 but the 75hz@1280x1024 is decent.

Look at the 19inch KDS monitor. The AV line not the older line. Should be around your price at onvia.

You might also want to consider the iiyama 17" i70A. There is a review of it at Gamers Depot and they seemed to like it quite well. I currently use a different model of iiyama monitor, but from my experience and from what I have heard from others every model of monitor they make are excellent.

If you don't care much about flat screen, you may go for Samsung 950P. It has very good specs and you could buy well under 300.00 from Onvia.

I've looked into the Iiyama i70a and am very interested! I couldn't find many reviews or personal testimonials about it. I am wonndering how this monitor compares to the Pro series from Iiyama like the ones that Anand reviewed. Does anyone know if any big chains like Best Buy or Circuit City would have one that I could take a look at in the store? Thanks for the help.
