Which MP3 to Get

I am looking at Creative ZEN VISION:M , Apple Ipod 30 gb and nano. 30gb ipod and crative will cost me $299 and nano for 250 so for $50 more, I am getting more storage thats why I am looking at both 30 gb and nano. I am trying to get more storage for my $$, plus hard drive based player dont they have shorther life span than flash based .

How can I get my video's to ipod or its a properitory format.

My friend just got a Vision M and it works well and sounds nice, but he can't put any of his downloaded songs on it...only those ripped straight to the player from CDs which is a real problem (not for him though, he doesn't download much). I've seen many Apple 5Gs around and they are overall pretty nice but are very fragile, all the ones I've seen have scratches already. Same with the Nano. The Nano only has like 4GB though, and the other two have 30, so keep that in mind.

As for video to iPod there are lots of programs out there that convert anything to MP4. Head over to the Software - Apps forum or just search around.

The ipod 30g is slaughtered battery wise. Apple realyl screwed you over if you dont get 60gig and you want ot watch video. 5gs are nice, but i prefer the trackpad of the 4g. the 5g trackpad seems smaller. scratches as easily as a nano which is notrous fro scrathnig, but of course there are many aftermarket cases to choose from.

the zen vision is pretty good, but absolutely obese compared to a nano or 30g ipod. Choose your poison, crap battery, low storage or thickness.

i definately want good battery life , not too thick. I just came down to the storage , price , I already have so many songs in itunes so I really dont want to loose them. I can always reload nano that way I dont have to worry about hd getting crashed.

Anyone has the new video ipod or nano.

If you just want MP3 ability, i would go with the Nano. But if you want video, You need something with alot more storage (and a bigger screen).

RoD

I'd skip MP3 players and get a "mp3 capable" walkman. Then you can play your CDs and then just burn MP3 stlye cds for 175 mp3s per disc.

But then again, I just like gadgets over small form factor.

🙂

A friend of mine has the 60gb iPod video and I have the 4gb Nano, what do you specifically want to know?

Battery life of 30 gb ipod and what things you like about nano(how many songs you can fit in it actually 1000). How does the video looks on a 2.5 screen ??

Well my friend has the 60gb not the 30gb so I can't make any specific comments about the 30, although I know someone else who is waiting on the 30 (back order). I can say the video looks great; very smooth and the screen has a very good viewing angle. I'm not sure about the battery, he's only had it a few weeks and I know he hasn't run it down yet.

As far as the Nano so far it's been great. Things I like; great form factor and size, there really is no competition in the 2gb+ field, the Nano is pretty much in it's own class. The iPod interface works exactly the same as it dose on the regular iPods and doesn?t really suffer from being smaller. Things I don't like; the included ear buds are junk you'll want to replace them as soon as possible. If you opt for the dock it still must be charged via USB which is pretty lame in my opinion. Right now I have about 550 or so song's on it with 150-200mb left but all my music is encoded in LAME extreme preset so about 220-280kb/s which is overkill for iPod use. You could easily fit more with AAC or even MP3 at lower settings and still have good quality.

Had my 60GB 5G for a month or so now, taken it to SA and back (12.5hr plane ride each way) and have not encountered any problems with the battery life, i was right in my assumption that the number of times i'll be listening to music for >20hrs straight between charge up points is negligable, if i want to take video with me i have a belkin battery backup pack that takes 4xAA, of which i have 3x2500mAh sets for my digital camera.

+ points:

Music quality - i have music encoded from 112-320kbps and can hear the difference between anything below ~200.

Video - extremely good quality for a small screen (although you need to hold it within an arms length to view it properly)

Looks - who doesn't think an iPod looks cool

Size - 60GB in that little space is amazing, it's more than i have in my laptop

Support - the first one i had tried to melt, email sent to Apple about it on the Tuesday, recieved pre-paid returns package via next day UPS from NL on Wednesday, shipped replacement iPod promptly via next day UPS back to me within a week

Interface - how much functionality can you extract from 5 buttons and a scroll wheel???

- points

Scratches - buy a silicone case BEFORE it arrives, cut half of the protective plastic off the front of the iPod before inserting it so the screen is still covered, no scratches now🙂

Battery life - usually the one thing anyone who doesn't like the iPod shouts about, it's not as good as the competition, but for me it's a non-issue and the fact that a smaller battery is used means that the product is smaller and lighter.

Replacing the battery - again this is something touted by the iPod haters, it was decided that an internal battery would reduce product size and weight, after 3 years or so (at least with my dad's 3G) the battery will not hold it's charge (like any lithium ion battery) and the unit will have to be returned to Apple who will ship a replacement unit to you with a new battery for ~£60 in the UK

All in all i'm more than happy with my desicion to go for the iPod, i played with many mp3 players before coommiting and i've made the right choice for me.

hope that helps🙂

The 30gb is realyl a 60gb but slightyl thinner with about 2/3 the battery life.
Apple gives it a measly 2 hours for video and 10 hours for audio verssu something like 3 hours and 16 hours for the 60gb.
In true life, expect slightly less than 2 hours of video and if you like to listen to yor music fairly loud(battery tests are done at 50% volume, no bakclight, which is needed to see stuff no color screens) so if you navigate some and turn volume up to 3/4 8 hours audio is more on par.

nano is fine. not too much exprience.

creative has pretty good battery life(4 hours, i'm not sure of audio battery life. The Zen vision screen is as sharp as the ipod but dosent go as bright.

I guess it depends if you really have use for more than 4GB of storage. iTunes does a really good job of syncing up all your playlists to your music library as soon as you plug in an iPod, so I really can't see using more than a couple GB unless I was on a long vacation.

I mean, it's hard for me to envision why you'd need more storage than a Nano has, so I guess I can't be very objective. I pretty much only use my Nano when I'm working out, though. If you actually have a use for the space, I'd suggest waiting and saving up for the 60GB iPod, though.

most of the songs I have are between 128 and 192 kbps, not sure sure if I will ever fill up 30 gb of storage . Zen vision m looks good too but I have to see it first.
