i know it may be too small for your entire collection, but 1GB Creative Muvo's can be had for about $70 via a hot deal over at fatwallet.

Already voted, now I need to run my mouth off.

I like the creative products, not always as cute as the apple line, but they work just fine.

DONT get a picture viewer. Just get what you need. An MP3 player.

I'll admit the cube looks neat, but I havent heard any reviews on it yet. Be wary.

ALSO, most important: Dont get any device that REQUIRES you to use its special sofware. Dragging and dropping in Windows should be available.

For some reason, I always forget about outpost.com....I had one of those new Samsung players (the really small ones with the color screen)...It was sweet, but with the size, the pic & text view was useless...

That's a HD based player. If there was a 5GB flash unit I would own it.

Where's the Ipod Mini option? If you must get one of those then go with the Zen Micro.

EDIT: just saw you didn't want an ipod. Just to let you know though, Zen Micro pretty much only supports WAV, MP3 and WMA (not lossless), so if you want any quality sound, then you should get an Ipod. I love my Ipod Mini, and I have all my audio in 320bit, 48khz AAC. I can't tell the difference between the original audio source and the AAC format at that quality.

What's the difference between HD based and flash?

HD = more capacity, but risky with jarring workouts (running) due to moving parts.
flash = smaller capacity, but no moving parts means you can run with them without worrying.

Yeah if I didn't want a lot of storage I'd have gotten the Zen Micro already. Good battery life, replaceable battery, good UI, fm tuner... I wish they had a tuner in the Zen Touch that didn't cost 90 bucks more

Zen Micro, great little player, and should be getting cheaper since larger versions and the Photo version are coming out soon.

What sort of headphones are you pumping that "quality sound" to?

I own the iAudio5, very similar to the U2 just with a larger screen and different type of controls. The support has been great as they have already updated the firmware numerous times to increase support for formats such as OGG. Great company. Go to creative's forums. I went there when looking and I couldn't believe creative's own forums had a thread of people swearing never to buy a creative MP3 player again. (Not that the Zen Micro is bad, but my brothers has malfunctioned a few times along with the infamous "headphone jack breaking" problem that has happened too)

Eh...if you go to any mp3 player forum (hell, any consumer electronic device), you'll see tons of people with problems. The long and short of it is, most people only post when they have problems.

That said, my gf's Zen Micro's headphone jack broke as well (as did my Rio Karma's and my boss's iPod's)...I'm starting to think it's an issue with ALL players. Creative was great with the RMA, I think she got a new (doesn't look to be refurbished) Micro in a week and a half turnaround.

OK. I have the MSI MegaPlayer 256MB.
It uses an Organic LED display and sounds excellent.
The only problem I had was when I got too motivated for my own good and tried to format it with FAT32.
Other than that I've had no issues. I can drag'n'drop mp3's and wav's, or use Win Media Player to convert and transfer WMA's. Its easy to navigate and change settings. Pretty good little battery and VERY compact, especially for all the features.

Well if you go to Iaudio's forums you will see that there is MANY fewer complaints. I like being able to have that trust.

But I agree that the Micro is a great lil player. But I wanted flash based. I wasn't looking to store my entire music collection, and 1 gig will allow me to store more than 100 songs at 320, thats really all I needed

If you want to hang on for 3-4 months, you'll start seeing players with 4-8GB of flash memory. You'll pay the price for being an early adopter, though.

I like the 1gb sony network whatever, its got a screen, FM tuner, and most importantly (up to) 50 hours of battery life. Plus you get 3 hours from 3 minutes of charging if you forgot to charge and have to run. I will eventually get it :p

Rio Karma would get my vote, but they went bust...
I think Creative.....Micro gives good functionality and very good quality at moderate price
Btw. Zen micro comes with colour screen now, if you missed that, here is the link

Looks like the Micro will do you well. It's one of the few non-Apple players that has a third party aftermarket, too.
