which MP3 player should I get?

purbeast0

No Lifer
since my discman is broken and i will be going back to the gym next week once my ankle heals, i want to get some tunes going in the gym!

i'm going to get an mp3 player. i don't want to get one that has gigs of storage space either. 512mb or maybe even 256mb will be enough for me, as my workouts won't run more than an hour or maybe more if i do more cardio.

can you all suggest some that are pretty good and have about that much storage on them? my manager just got an ipod shuffle and i think it holds 512mb, i'm thinking one of those maybe?

No need to get an ipod shuffle.
There are plenty of other "non-ipod" products out there. I had a Rio Sport and it worked great.

how much are these other ones you guys are talking about?

for $100 the ipod shuffle seems pretty good priced. i just saw his too and it looks pretty nice.

1.) didn't really have a set budget, but 512Mb is more than enough for me definitely, and the ipod shuffle is $100 which seems as a pretty good budget mark.

2.) hell no, the only thing worse than the radio is Napolean Dynamite 😛

yea i really think i'm going for the ipod shuffle + armband. the thing is just tiny and seems to meet my need perfectly 🙂

do stores like CC and BB sell these things? or do I have to go to the apple store?

I bought a cheapo MSI Megastick for the gym. 256meg, USB, and light as all hell. It is decent considering the price. It was less than $60.

I have the MPIO FL100 and I like it really well. It's very light, small and only uses one AAA battery and the battery lasts for quite a while. On the other hand, for the same price, I would get the Shuffle.

Anyone familar with the Creative Labs mp3 players

at Walmart they have the following:

Creative Zen Micro 5 gig - 222.74
Creative Nomad 40 gig - 223.72

I don't understand why the difference between the Nomad and the Zen, for a buck more you can get a 40 gig Nomad

Anything with a micro drive (4-6Gb). I wouldn't touch the shuffle with an iron poker....no lcd? WTF? 😕

The Zen is smaller

Get a Rio Karma 😉

Why would you get a Shuffle for ~$100 which has only 512MB of memory or the 1GB version for ~$150 when you could get the Karma for ~$160 which has 20GB. Just rip all your music and encode it to flac and you'll use most of that space 😉

I got mine for $150.00

here is one for $159

if he's just using it for the gym.. doesn't matter.

The shuffle just doesn't have enough space in my opinion. I have a lot of flac files (Have a lot of live music that is in flac) and it would be easier to move the flac file (large) to a device than have to convert everything. Plus I am not too keen on memory stick over a harddrive.

apparently you forgot to read my original post.

1. i said i didn't need anything over 512mb of memory. my car plays mp3's off of cd's and 700mb of songs is just too much.

2. i don't need a display while listening to music while either running or lifting weights.

Umm... iPOD prolly, unless that Napster thing tempts you as it tempts me. $15 a month for unlimited music...sounds sweet enough.

you really have no idea what is going on in this thread do you ...

I'm sending my shuffle back for exchange, it worked improperly from day one and is getting worst. The thing shuts off by itself and won't come back on. It's actually a fairly common problem. For the price difference, I say get an Ipod mini. However, I still think it's a pretty nice machine but I am getting annoyed at the shuffling as with large collections, you might end up with maybe 33% of the songs you like, 33% you don't mind and 33% you hate.
