I hear good things about foobar, but I still like a classic version of winamp. Banshee for linux though.

everybody says good stuff about foobar.. although it can be slightly confusing to configure.. On my PC, music dosn't automatically start playing when you double click an mp3 file.. i have to bring up the foobar window.. and click the play button.. i'm sure there's gotta be a fix for this but i can't find it..

BTW, if your PC isn't too slow, you can try VLC too...

I still use winamp. It's simple, takes little resources, doesn't have all the garbage that other players have, allows and has a plethora of useful add-ons, and is extremely customizable.

Zune player. It works well. Less buggy than win amp pro and foobar.

Also use win amp classic on older win xp machine.

Set your file associations.

Or use something like VLC. I always used VLC to open single clips, and Foobar2000 for my library and playlists. VLC is quick to open, and it keeps my setup from getting borked on my main player.

Since I use MPC-HC + LAV + madVR + SVP for playing videos... I just stuck to MPC-HC for my MP3s as well I like its interface more than foobar

Me too - in addition to those reasons, b/c I like to manually sort music into folders of my choosing, it's the ONLY player I have found that has the kind of album library I want: the ability to to do a folder view but also show all files in the subfolders. The catch is that I have to use an older Winamp 5.5x series with a plugin (Dynamic Library) that is no longer under development and doesn't work of 5.6 and presumably newer versions
