Hi,

Asus K8V-X http://www.canadacomputers.com/index.ph...owProduct&cmd=pd&pid=005374&cid=MB.259

or

Asus K8N? http://www.canadacomputers.com/index.ph...owProduct&cmd=pd&pid=005537&cid=MB.259

And why also please.

I'm leaning towards the K8V-X, mainly because the agp slot isn't 1.5V only. But i'm concerned, when I want to upgrade later will i need more than 1.5 volts? (by upgrading later, i mean a card like the 6600GT)

Also, rest of the system specs:

upgrading from

amd 750 mhz
asus k7v
640mb pc133 ram
geforce fx5600

TO

amd sempron 3000+ 64bit
asus k8n or k8v-x
1 gb pc3200 ram
geforce fx5600

And will I have to reinstall windows on the hard drive? Or will it be plug and play with the new motherboard?

Thanks in advance.

Agp specs won't change. All are either 1.5 or .8 volts for newer cards. You should be more concerned about the power supply if you want to use a high end video card. Or you might want to wait for the uli 1695 boards (agp and pci-e) and go with socket 939.

The card I have in right now is GeForceFX 5600. Both that card and the 6600GT will work in the K8N mobo?

Also, can someone answer my other questions (And will I have to reinstall windows on the hard drive? Or will it be plug and play with the new motherboard? )

Both video cards should work fine with any agp 8x slot. For the new install, press f8 on the first windows loading, and see if you can load the new mobo drivers in safe mode. Reboot, and let windows try reconfiguring your files with the new drivers. I usually just do a fresh install, but you can also back up your files before installing the new board using a program such as norton ghost. You have a better chance of avoiding a format using the via chipset k8v-x, but the k8n has the better nvidia chipset, and the via one has limited overclocking abilities.

Well, I will not be doing much overclocking (if any), and I really want to avoid a format. What would you say the chances of not having to format with the A8v-X would be?
