should i go with VIA or Nforce3? I thought i read that Nforce3 no longer have built in sound. maybe i read wrong. I want something that is stable when overclocked. I also read that Nforce boards are faster witha 6800GT than the VIA boards.

Hey Zaku,
Are you looking for a socket 754 board or a socket 939 board? I just ordered a MSI K8N Neo Plat. board which does have the Nforce 3 250gb chipset. It also comes with 7.1 channel sound which will hopefully be awesome. I've read around and this board really got good reviews. If you are looking for a 939 board though, Im not sure, I cant afford the processors.

i'm gonna go with an A64 3000 or 3200 so it will be a 754 board. I also looked into the MSI but i read its got bios problems. i can't remember exactly what was wrong with it but i also read many good reviews on it from newegg. people say to stay away from MSI boards but other say their quality has improved with the K8N Neo board. this is why i'm confused and am looking for some input.

i also looked at the epox 8KDA3+ and 8KDA3J. what is the main difference? the firewire and SATA RAID? i read it has problems with double sided memory sticks...

either msi or asus or epox nforce3 board. Currently msi gets best results but has most issues. ALso dfi is coming out a with a board soon that should be great. For the asus with teh 1.4 bios everything besides ddr voltage is perfect, though ddr votlage is still severly limited so dont expect great things from your memory. Probably best bet would be either the dfi at the end of august or asus if they fix that last issue.

As an MSI K8n neo platinum owner, I'd recommend you either steer clear from MSI neo plat., or wait a few months for a new BIOS release to fix the current problems (temperature, OC stability, SATA controller, the list goes on), otherwise this board is too much of a hassle, and you'd probably be better off with other mobos.

abit kv8 pro

has vias K8T800 Pro chipset with working AGP/pci lock and supports 1000Mhz HT, it is a very nice overclocker....but they skimp on features tho.

for instance the via chip supports 8 usb 2.0 ports, abit have 4 on the back i/o but DO NOT supply the headers for the oher 4. also gone for cheaper sound and raid controllers
