Which motherboard for a server?

I've currently got a Celeron 333 on an AOpen AX63 Pro (Via Apollo Pro 133) running as a web/mail server for my site. I've no real complaints about the board, it used to be my main rig, and at the time I thought I was in heaven.

I will soon be upgrading several other computers, and will have a surplus BX (circa 98/99) made by Seanix (respected company in Canada, our largest OEM).

I'll be reformatting the server no matter wether I switch the motherboard or not, but want to know if I should consider ditching the AOpen for the Seanix. Both are Slot 1 boards with 3 SDRAM RAM slots. The AOpen has the ability to run the RAM at 133 Mhz, as well as overclock and the Seanix doesn't. Speed is not a concern for me; stability is my concern. Which should I choose?

I would go for the one that you definitly know is stable and reliable. I use a fic 503+ for my server which isn't known for it's stability but it's been super reliable for me so I keep on using it.

Does any or both of the boards support ECC memory? The 440BX chipset supports ECC mode, but the board doesn't necessarily.

I wouldn't run a server (or a desktop machine for that matter) without ECC memory. Sure, you lose a couple percent performance, but you should be able to rest pretty easy in regard to memory issues. Also, ECC SDRAM should be available quite cheap these days.

I've owned 2 different aopen mb's including the ax63 and was very impressed with their stability. My ax6bc was used for 3 years without a problem, from 400mz to 1200mz almost every day.

I dont see why you'd want to swap out a solid, known mb for another when there's no advantage to you. Sounds like the change is as good as a rest for you!

I'd use the Aopen board, the older Aopens were really good. Upgrade the CPU if you can, should be able to find something better than 300 though.

FIC is known for their stability, they have really low performance though.
