Which motherboard for 4800

Hi could anyone help me with this please as it is the first time i have attempted to upgrade my pc. I have chosen the amd 4800+ dual proccessor but dont know which motherboard to opt for. Ideally i would like it to be agp and still be able to use my ide hard drives from my original system. ( Can i still use these on a SATA mobo?)

Why would you like it to be AGP? PCI-Express is the future... Unless you're still having a decent AGP one, I'd opt for PCIe... Yes, almost every mobo still has two IDE ports for non-SATA drives...

To have the best of both worlds, take the ASRock 939Dual-SATA2... It's cheap, features an AGP8x AND PCIe 16x slot, and has an extra slot where you can mount a CPU Upgrade card... This way you can still buy yourself a new CPU on Socket AM2 (AMD's next processor socket) without having to buy a new motherboard...

Prices are around $ 70 online, so that's pretty cheap as well...

 
That sounds great. You guessed right i still have a 9800 pro agp graphics card from my previous sytem.

So would this board run my new processor straight away?

oh and howcome its so cheap, it sounds like a bargain.

You might need a BIOS upgrade, but that can be done from within Windows... It's no helluva task... 🙂

It's based on another (cheaper) chipset made by ULi, instead of nVidia/Via/ATI... However, it's a very good performer (outperforming nVidia's nForce4 a lot of the times), and luckily for us, it's such a bargain... 😛 It doesn't have features like Gigabit LAN and FireWire, but otherwise it's a great motherboard...

Look around, it's very popular, and there are a lot of reviews on the web of it...
