Which monitor?

Okay, i've heard lots of talk about GeForce cards being okay with Shadow mask, but being horrid with Aperture grille (or is it vice versa?)

all I know is that I had several nvidia cards and they sucked on both of my Trinitron's

So which is a reasonably-priced 19" monitor that will work well with a GTS? i.e. a good, cheap shadow mask?

Just trying to prepare for the inevitable (me picking up a GTS-U)

I don't feel comfortable soldering my video card, and I am a spoiled bitch when it comes to 2d quality, so I don't want to go back.

Well, you're gonna wanna, yeah, look at the Samsung 955DF it's a great shadow mask.

Samsung 900IFT is also shadow mask.

Also, Hitachi CM771, CM772, and additionally the Cornerstone p1450/p1460. All of these monitors use shadow mask tubes.

However, I'm currently running an Elsa GF2 MX on an AG monitor (Samsung 900NF) in 1280 @ 32bit and it looks fantastic. 1600x1200 is a bit tight on a 19" monitor anyhow 😀.

I'd vouch for the Hitachi CM771 🙂 Have one and its pretty n ice on a GeForce MX

The Samsung 955df is a really great monitor. I've heard good things about it.specs

finding a monitor that suit your need could be very subjective though. Everyone's eye likes different monitors. And everyone worked at different resolution and refresh rate. in the case of Samsung 955DF, it couldn't do 1280x1024@85Hz.. which is automaticaly disqualified for me.

I don't even know if they sell them any more but I am quite satisfied with my Viewsonic G790 with Geforce2 GTS at 1280x1024x85hz. My work monitor is a Sony G400/ATI and although I prefer the flatness of the sony the viewsonic text precision is as good.

hmmm, the 955d doesn't do 1600x1200x75

I probably should've specified that I need 1280x1024x85 and 1600x1200x75

Oh I didn't know you wanted better resolutions. I guess the 900IFT would fit the bill then but I heard some things about it not being as good as the 955DF even though they both have the same tube. Otherwise, Hitachi CM771 and 772 are good too (one of those might be discontinued).

I like AG monitors better than shadow masks though.
