Which monitor?

1) 22" Mitsubishi Diamond Pro® 2040-u

or

2) 21" Hitachi SuperScan 814

Both run about 1,200 shipped, have a person who wants monster sized monitor and these seem to be the choices. Any suggestions?

Mitsubishi. I can't tell you anything from personal experience, but I've heard alot of good things about them, plus that monitor is 1" bigger 🙂

Between those two Hitachi. Mitsubishi is a crapy company. I care about how companies behave more than most other people I know though.

I'd have to lean toward the Mitsu. Though I haven't seen either of those specific monitors, I have compared the Mitsu DP900u vs. Hitachi Superscan 851 before buying the Mitsu. To sum up my reasons: flat screen, Trinitron, dual inputs, USB on base. Flat screen = less glare, just plain sweet. Trinitron = better colors, longer life. Dual inputs = BNC + DB15, so I could hook up my Xpert128 and V2 w/o the V2 degrading my image quality. USB = convenience and future expandability, though I haven't used it yet, as I only have two USB devices.

Sorry, I just don't feel up to rehashing the countless posts I've done on monitors around the time I was buying mine. But those criteria should be a good starting point. Again, nothing can replace actually seeing them in person, preferably using the same graphics cards.

KDS warranty service rocks from what I hear. Someone on these boards says they send out to pickup the defective one and had the replacement all within 22 hours time. The 21" avitron is a great monitor, in a Trinitron true flat screen. 🙂

Thats a tough call, but I'd say it depends on you. Because you're comparing a AG(Aperture Grille) monitor against a Shadow Mask monitor. Some people like AG, some people like shadow mask. If you're not sure what Im talking about go to a store and take a look for yourself.

Personally, I would pick Mitsubishi, because I like AG, and it's purely flat, great image quality and good brightness. The Hitachi on the other hand, is a good monitor as well, they produce some of the best shadow mask monitors. Dont listen to those who trash Mitsubishi, they're not a crappy company, they're a great company.

If you're gonna spend $1200, I'd say get something better than KDS, get a big brand. Not saying KDS sucks though, but really, you dont want to throw a way your hard earned money for some small brand.
