Which monitor to buy?

I'm in the market for a new monitor and i've narrowed my choices down to two:
Sony CPD-E400 19" or
Samsung SyncMaster 900 NF 19"

The sony is a trinitron and the samsung uses a diamondtron tube. In your opinion, which is the better monitor? Prices are both around $450. Thanks in advance.

The cpd-g400 is the monitor i was originally considering but I concluded that it was too expensive. $429 is the lowest i've heard, however. Can you please fill me in on this pricematch? Is this through the staples web site or the actual store? Thanks

i like the Samsumg NF or IFT series better since they are cheaper than Sony....

in terms of price/performance... i woule get myself Samsung NF

i am happy with my NF

If that was the G400, then I'd go for the Sony. But then again, the G400 wouldn't be at the same price as the 900nf. 🙂

I'd pick the 900NF. I also agree it has the best price/performance ratio. There's a $30 mail-in rebate from Samsung this month too.

Got to uBid and get one of the new refurb Sony G400's for around $288 or sometimes less. Moz on these forums today bought a E500 for $420 if that sounds good to you. I myself have one of the G500's and couldn't be happier with my purchase. I got a hell of a deal and they are from the Sony factory and come with a 90day Sony warranty. I bought an advance replacement warranty for $62 extra if this is a concern.

They are new from the Sony factory and as good or better than a retail unit. I can vouch for mine. If not for the sticker on the back, I would never...ever been able to tell.

I actually saw today G400s close out the auction at $220 something. That's an incredible price! These are also uBids products so their return policy aplies. You can't lose. And they are the best deal bar none.

Funny how people suggestion going with refurbished when you can get a new and better one. The 900NF will destroy the E400, because is suppose to compete against G400.

Lxi where can you get a new 900NF for $280 something or under? I suggested the G400, that's what they are going for.

These are the best deals out there period.

My Sony G500 is a new refurb sealed from the factory, It has a manufacture date of July 2000, and is every bit as good(the same) as the retail units. These are the ones they send out for warranty replacements. They look and perfom the same as the retail units. But mine was almost half the price, for the same quality.

I was going to go with the Samsung if I went new. I debated with either the 900NF or biting the bullet and getting the 1200NF. But I saw these by chance and am so glad I did. I paid a bit more than I needed to but I still got away with an incredible deal. I paid $525 for the G500. With shipping and advance replacement warranty out the door came to $665 total.

I can't find any 21" of this quality near this price. Belive me I looked. The savings are even better on the 19" monitors. Like I said I saw the G400 close out in the $220's, and they regularly go for under $280 something.

Well, I'm gonna build a new computer for my cousin!

Now here are my choices:
1. Samsung 900NF BRAND NEW for $420 shipped.
2. Sony G400 REFURBISHED for ~$250 shipped.

Which one should I get?!

Sounds like a no brainer to me. My experience has been great. Plus remember these aren't what most people think of when they think refurbished. These are really new monitors with new parts from the Sony factory. They are straight up to Sony's spec. They come in a sealed Sony box. With all cables and manual individually sealed in plastic. It really is like buying a retail unit, except for the little sticker on the back that says refurbished. It seems more like a legal thing. It even has that new plastic smell to it.

I mean come on! It's almost half the price! Plus Sony will stand behind it, so if so some reason you by chance get a dud(which happens the same with retail) it's covered by the warranty.

I really don't think you can lose.

MADCAP:

Sure if you get a good one, its a great deal. But the chances of getting a lemon is higher than new units. Plus, does it come with full warranty like the new ones do?

Well that's where you make the trade off. It comes with a 90day warranty from Sony. So if it's not right get it fixed or replaced right away. But I purchased an advanced replacement warranty in addition just in case. But even after the warranty and shipping, I'm saving hundreds of dollars. And I'm getting the same thing irregardless.

From reports I've heard buying a retail monitor is a crap shoot as far as quality anyway. So I'm taking the same chance, and saving a lot of money to boot. How many times have you heard of people sending their monitors back a few times till they got one with proper focus or convergence? I sure have heard a lot. So if I might face the same thing, might as well make it worth my while and save some money while I'm at it. What would really suck is to pay full pop and have to send it back and forth anyway.

It's just like buying a new car that has a hundred miles on it, that someone brings it back in to the dealer because the brakes are bad. The dealer gives them a new car, and fixes the breaks on the one they returned. They can't sell it for new. But you get to buy the equivilent of a brand new car for close to half the price.

I also am loooking to buy a new monitor and am stuck between choosing a Sony G400 or a Samsung 900NF. The sony is ~ 480 and the samsung is around ~ 380. I don't really mind the $100 price difference if the sony is worth it. Does anyone have any experience between these two monitors and can recommend one over the other ?

The iiyama seems good but a bit too expensive. The cheapest I can find it is ~600. Since the Samsung 900NF uses the same diamndtron tube i think both monitors will be similar and the samsung is a lot cheaper. The only problem i have is deciding between that and the sony g400.
