Onvia has the Sony E200 17" Trinitron for $299
Onvia also has the KSD 19" VS195-E for $289.

Both include free shipping.

Both offer 1600x1200. KSD is .26, Sony .25.
1600x1200 at 75hz for KDS, 16x12 at 60hz for Sony.

Which to get?
They are just about the same price?
Trinitron has higher quality
but of course the KSD adds more 2"
Both have common resolutions, and dpi is fairly the same. The refresh is better on KDS.

WHich would u recommend?
also for about the same price +/- $30 any other monitor that u think is great>

KDS. I had no problems with my KDS monitor, but mine have a Trinitron Tube (VS-7e), the 19inch one (VS195-e) have a Samsung tube I think.

I would go for the KDS because of the higher Refresh rate and the screen size (18 inches) & price.

Make sure you are always careful when comparing dot pitch in monitors. There are about 4 or 5 diff. kind of pitches and they sometimes aren't too specific. Just a word of advise to everyone.

I would go with the sony. I personaly would much rather have a nicer looking monitor than 2 more inches of desk space.

I just got my CPD-G400 yesterday from UPS and all I have to say is, go Sony all the way! My god, I love this thing...and to imagine I was actually settling for this one cuz I couldn't afford/find the GDM-F400.
You might want the CPD-G200, it will probably have better refresh rates or something, the E200s I saw at Fry's the other day didn't look very good but of course, no monitors look good at Fry's.

I second Comp10 opinion....

definetely go for the flat screen, even if it is 17" ...
If you'd like something cheaper, go for KDS 17" AV7T the Flat trinitron.... it;s like $218 the last time I saw it ... probably cheaper if you can use some coupons :)

Any KDS monitor with VS in the model name is the Visual Sensations line of CRT monitors (Cathode Ray Tubes). These monitors do not have perfectly flat trinitron tubes and do have a slight curve to them. You would have to get one with the AV in the model name which refers to Avitron. These have perfectly flat FD trintron tubes which look like the Sony's. I think some are reading into the specs when they see square and flat. I've owned four KDS monitors. One of which is the VS-190 which is the same as the VS-195e and it is not pefectly flat.
As far as a choice...You want a quality image and may be picky about color and geometry..go Sony. You're not that picky about every little flaw in the screen and would like a bigger picture go with the KDS.

I agree with err...go KDS AV-7T and you'll have a perfectly flat trinitron tube and will save some bucks at the same time.

i think i'm gonna get the sony for the quality and flatness.

I was considering the KDS Avitron 17" but it only supports up to 1280 rez so Sony it is

Considering that a monitor should last you a very long time, I personaly would shell out the extra 70 bucks for the G200. Although I havent seen both monitors to compare them, I would assume the G200 is a higher quality monitor than the E200.

my decision has swayed so much in the last few hours.

I am heavily considering the KDSUSA AV-195TF
http://www.kdsusa.com/ALL/Avitron/AV-195TF.htm
for $399, $10 more than the G200 I was about to get, it seems like a great deal.

Is the AV-195TF a real Trinitron? Flat?
It says it does 1600x1200 at 85hz which is nice
.24 dpi

it seems nice

any1 use these b4?
any1 have anything against Avitron?

thx

I have a Radius L-1, which is a KDS manufactured 19" Trinitron monitor. It appears KDS has moved the Radius name to only their LCD screens. Anyways, the picture of the monitor you want looks alot like my L-1 so I'll give you my opinion of it...

Back when I was shopping for a 19" monitor about 6 months ago, I went through 2 other 19" monitors before I happily stumbled onto the L1. The first one I got was a GEM 19" that Fry's Electronics always has on sale. The price was good (under $300) but aaargh... I couldn't stand the warping the monitor caused because it wasn't a true flat screen. I tried a Viewsonic Optiquest next, and although it was flatter than the GEM monitor, it still had enough warping to bug the crap out of me.

So after I returned those 2 monitors, I decided I really needed a Trinitron monitor for a true flatscreen. I was about to get the Sony 19" Trinitron when I noticed the Radius for $200 cheaper. So I thought what the heck and bought it. All I can say is I have never regretted my decision... The screen uses a real Trinitron tube (I can see the 2 wires going across the screen) and it flaaaat. No more annoying warping around the borders.

sov05:

Go with the Avitron AV-195TF. I have an AV-21TF (21" version) and it rocks.

The Sony G400 and G500 use the same tubes as the AV-195TF and AV-21TF, respectively. The E-series don't have as high specifications as the G-series.

But anyway, KDS has AWESOME customer support, they will jump through hoops to make sure your monitor is what you wanted!

If you're looking at the KDS AV-195TF..now you're talking about a perfectly flat trinitron tube. The only thing that I don't like about it is it runs a little warm at the vents on the top and the digital control buttons on the front are a little small. You can't beat the price and you'll have an extra couple of hundred to spend on something else...unless you never upgrade again!

This might be a dumb question but...have you ever actually seen any of these monitors? If you find stores that have them, then you can see the visual difference. Choose the one that looks best to YOU and then worry about price! Personally I opted for a 19" panasonic tube over a 17" trinitron. The flat was nice, but the tension wires bugged me, and I do love big screen!
Others would say I was nuts and in their eyes, they're right!

I would say that all the monitors mentioned in this thread are good. I have the VS195E and my brother has the 17" Sony - both are nice.

I think that anything involving the senses (visual, audible, taste, etc.) is a matter of personal taste.

So, the best advice was to go to somewhere that has the monitors setup to look at.

BTW, don't forget the Onvia coupons at www.techbargains.com !
