I used my Viewsonic PF790 for 4 years happily. I compared dozens of monitors at the time and still think that the picture that monitor produces is one of the most asthetically pleasing I've come across.
Trinitron = Aperture Grille = better picture for you. Look for horizontal bars (faint, but noticable against white background) at 1/3 and 2/3 height on your screen (only 1 bar for 15" monitors). These are to keep the verical bars which make up the aperture grille straight and accurate. You get used to them pretty fast, though I started to bother me again when I used my 2001FP exclusively for a couple months, then set them up dual.
