I can get a replay lifetime activation for very cheap, now i have to decide what model to get, i heard the newer ones dont have the ethernet port built in, so id like the ethernet port. which model is easiest to hack and most useful? storage isnt that important as long as it could be upgraded.

5040 is great. I haven't hacked a thing on it, though. Just use dvArchive on my other computers.

The best advice for any potential ReplayTV customer is to get a TiVo.

The AVSforum for ReplayTV is the place to go to answer all your questions.

My 5040 is a 5120 now.

I LOVE my replayTV. Seriously. It makes TV watchable. ESPECIALLY commercial skip. You can't really hack it.
I archive off shows I like to PC then edit out the commercials and burn them to DVD. Pretty fun. :) Yes I'm a geek.

That's old news... SonicBLUE sold ReplayTV to the company that makes Denon and Marantz audio equipment.
Link

Edit: I'm slow... but I included a link, dammit!!!

My bad. I haden't been updated. Last I heard was the bankruptcy, never heard about the buy-out.

future versions of the replayTV will not have commercial advance, that way marantz will stay out of legal trouble.

As far as I know there are no plans to pull it from existing units.

Have you gone to AVSforum.com yet?
