I'm now the proud owner of a Athlon XP 2500+...wonderful upgrade from my Athlon 950. From what i understand, though, my current ECS K7S5A won't run the chip at it's full speed, so i was wondering what would be a good, inexpensive motherboard to look for?

inexpensive.. I was gonna pick up the shuttle an35n from newegg for 62 bucks. Great performance and stability without all the added stuff like SATA, Firewire and soundstorm sound.

mobos based on the new KT880 (dual channel DDR) should be out soon. May be worth the wait.

lanparty is great, but really expensive. I'd do the AN35N...done 3 builds with this thing, it's a really nice board. You will not miss that K7S5A. What kind of RAM did you have on the K7S5A? I assume it was DDR, but might have been PC133???

My 2500xp runs as a 3200xp with no prob of course u need suitable cooling....

Basically you might as well ask what people are running now, as that would get you the same answers. The general consensus around here for recomendations, however tends to be 3:

Low price, Shuttle a35n ~$62
Middle price: Abit NF7-s V2 ~$90-$100 depending on day
High end: DFI Lanparty II ~$150

Last 2 will get you all the goodies, like sata, firewire, and the MCP-T which gives you the Soundstorm Audio.

Actually, I am running an EPOX board...I build for others and I am impressed with the AN35N for a budget board. He ask for inexpensive, I give him inexpensive.
