Which Mobo is good for AMD 64 for socket 754? Im planning to spent no more than $180 on a mobo. I want one that is good for OC too.

I've had tremendous luck with MSI mobos. My K8T has been flawless for about 6 months. I just got my K8N yesterday, so I'll let you know how that works this weekend. :)

I'd like to put in my vote for the Chaintech VNF3-250. Just got mine a couple days ago and it is by far the easiest installation I've ever experienced.

MSI Neo Plat is working good for me. I had a bad experience with the Chaintech corp(not with the 250 boards though), and the asus k8n-e I ordered came doa although it's probably an isolated incident.

Same here. The MSI has a great feature set, but I was scared off by some apparent quality concerns. I imagine 79/80 MSI owners love their boards, and the remaining guy is pissed.

Does that board have working Cool'n'Quiet when 2 dimms are installed, or does in only work with 1 dimm?

Another 8KDA3J user here who loves their board!

Great price, nice overclocker.

I've heard one to many Neo Plat sob stories to recomend that board, people unable to get even a 100mhz overclock on a CG rev chip ect. Stay away.

It only works with 1 DIMM. Honestly I can't imagine I'd notice it anyway, since I have 4 case fans, but intellectually I'd like the idea of being able to enable it.

Speaking of the 8KDA3J, what utility is everyone using to monitor temps? MBM doesn't have it listed as supported....Since MBM is apparently no longer, I don't expect to be anytime soon...

I've heard too many bad things about the MSI Neo Platiunum. I got an Asus K8N-E Deluxe despite the negative reviews concerning overclocking. So far it's been very stable and fast. Plus, the overclocking is improving with every BIOS update...

you can manually set it up to monitor...

you have to pick winbond 1 believe for the cpu and winbond 2 for something else hehehe :)

but it works!!!

as for a good A64 mobo..

i have the epox but it has been a pain in the butt for me...

i had a shuttle an50r that was also a big pain as well...

that is why i am waiting patiently for the new dfi lanparty UT nforce3-250 for skt754.

its release date is 9/2/04....

Using the VNF3-250 as well, got it for around 80.00. Great for OC, solid board. Running like clockwork for 3 months now.

MSI Plat here also. Only complaint is 1 + 2 SATA ports dont work worth a crap when overclocking. 3 + 4 work just fine. They have been doing a good job of releasing bios to fix problems here and there....seems like the FSB overclock is getting better and better also.

I use Unified System Diagnostic Manager, seems to work OK. AIDA32 works well with this board as well, they have closed their web site however.

asus k8n-e is now viable for overclocking only thing they need to do is increase ddr voltage (max is 2.7 now) otherwise it is among the best a64 boards. Also dfi is supposed to have a great overclocking board out by the end of august, might be worth waiting for.

What kind of problems did you have with your EPOX? Mine went together without a hitch... I just haven't tried to O/C it yet...

I O/Ced mine the first night - you can see the specs in my sig. I got it to 2200 with no monkeying with HTT multiplier or RAM ratio. It was a breeze and runs perfectly, even though I have ordinary Corsair Value Select PC3200.

FYI cool and quiet works PERFECTLY on the Asus K8N-E with 2 crappy OCZ dimms are in it, and running at 200mhz @ 2.0-3-3-6-1T

;)

Sorry, just had to plug my board... :p

idling @ 29 C, Full Load/Prime95 @ 51 C ... weee!

I had a Shuttle AN50R. Had a few problems with it, So I got a Cahintech VNF3-250. I've liked it so much that I bought a second one for my new 3200+. It is cheap, decent voltages and a good overclocker. Can't complain at all. Of course the new DFI should be the premier overclocking A64 motherboard, but at $135 I could almost pay for both my VNF3's.

Mobo's are so cheap in the US. When the DFI hits Canada it'll be $240 at least. That's how much the Epox 8KDA3+ goes for!

Performance differences are pretty minimal when comparing all the mobos unless you are a big overclocker. Ive got an Asus K8V SE Deluxe and I love it. All the mobos are great. The MSI K8N seemed to have a bunch of problems when it first came out, but seems like its problems are getting solved. Just released too early for its time I guess..

Hey
I just put together a system with the MSI K8N Neo Plat. board. Everything fired up flawlessly and I havent had a single problem with it. Im using the v1.2 bios. My NB temp is around 40 and my CPU is about the same. I guess these are reasonable temps for stock cooling, so Im guessing the temperature monitor is fixed in this bios. I havent tried overclocking it yet because I need to find out if I need a better HSF for the CPU and NB. ( Anyone have any suggestions?) But for stability, not a single problem yet. Ran Doom3 and Ut2004 all day yesterday and not a single prob. Great board.
