Which Mobile Pentium 4 Processors support HyperThreading?

Hi

Does anyone know which Mobile Intel® Pentium® 4 Processors support HyperThreading?

I found from here that CPU?s of 3.20 GHz, 3.06 GHz, 2.80 GHz, 2.66 GHz support HT but there are often two processors with different sSpec codes sharing the same speed and I suspect one has HT and the other doesn?t. See here for the sSpec codes of all Mobile Pentium 4 Processors.

I basically want to know if SL724 or SL725 support HT. Any help would be most appreciated!

Thanks,
Will

As far as I know, there are no mobile cpus from Intel that have Hyper-Threading. Only desktop P4s that are used in certain high-end desktop-replacement, lappies use HT.

I think they are practically the same but most likely hand picked for the best thermal characteristics of the bunch. Do you think the difference is negligible?

Most mobile cpus use speed-step technology which reduces the power consumption of the cpus when idle. The difference between a 1.7ghz mobile and a 3.2ghz P4 desktop cpu is definately noticable. But it really depends on what you intend to do with your laptop.

Not sure I follow you. Intel do make Mobile Intel Pentium 4 Processors with HyperThreading and I assume they use the same criteria with selection as the Mobile Pentium 4M processors in that they choose the best from the wafer that can run at the lowest voltages, thus producing less heat.

I'm really after HyperThreading at the coolest possible temps.

I thought the laptops with HT were just using desktop processors.

I am unaware of any 533bus P4's with HT other than the 3.06B desktop chip.

The notes should say "This processor supports Hyper-Threading technology."

http://www.intel.com/products/notebook/processors/mobilepentium4/

and

Spec sheet for Mobile Pentium 4s

I suspect that there isn't nearly as much difference in temps between the desktop P4's and the mobile variety when running at these high speeds with HT but I'm in a position to buy a SL724 or SL725 at a reasonable price and if they don't have a heat spreader then hopefully I'll get some lower temps. In any case, mobile chips are usually the best of the wafer so I'd buy them over the desktop variety anyway.

Sorry, didn't refresh. I didn't see the notes at the bottom. Must get bigger monitor! Many thanks LTC8K6.

Interesting that they all end with a letter. Wish they'd come up with a better way of naming them! Like adding H to the end or something.

Thanks for all your help. If anyone is interested in using mobile p4's in desktops check out the link in my sig. They make great overclockers or, at the other end of the scale, cooling running chips for running fanless!

Cheers!
