Which MMORPG players are the most detached from reality?

I never played everquest. Im addicted to WoW but i still consider myself part of this world. I played Star Wars galaxies and several people there really thought that they were jedi knigts. One of my friends that played EQ said that people were far far worse and really though they were that character.

your thoughts on which game has the most dillusional players?

Dungeons and Dragons, not an mmorpg, but an rpg nevertheless. alot of them look like freaks, and they talk funny.

How dare you! You have angered my god (lvl 280) and he has given me the power to hurl lightning bolts at you that are oddly shaped like walnuts. "LIGHTNING BOLT, LIGHTNING BOLT, LIGHTNING BOLT!!"

[EDIT] now where is my rune stone? I need to get back to the inn at Ironforge. [/EDIT]

[EDIT 2] For those that have no idea what "lighting bolt" has to do with anything... LIGHTNING BOLT [/EDIT2]

The people in the Lightning Bolt video were doing live action of a Japanese console game called Ogre Battle or Tactics Ogre, if I recall correctly.

SWG sucks too much for a player to become immersed to the point where they would lose touch with reality.

Agree.

Won't touch my SWG account anymore 😛

Im addicted to wow right now but i try to get out as much as possible. Why did they release 2 weeks before finals?

Having played EQ for 6-7 months last year into early part of this year, I can say that there are some really "out there" people playing the game. Don't get me wrong, I talked a lot of pretty cool, friendly normal people as well, but it has its share of whackos.

EDIT: Grammar

Even without the glitches and bugs it was hard to become immersed in this game. When "reality" finds you running across the plains only to discover the pants you purchased thirty minutes ago traversed time and space to return to the person that sold them to you when the zone servers got out of synch is a bit much, even if one is in a drug-induced haze.

I think Everquest has the reputation of having the most whackos. My roomate is one of them. He'll stay in his room for an entire weekend playing Everquest. A lot of nights, he comes back from work at 5pm and plays Everquest until he has to 'wake up' for the next day of work at 7am. It's scary.

When I played Shadowbane, we had a month of all-out warfare between three huge alliances on my server. My guild usually managed to show up for the oddest of 6am banes. We would talk about how it was worth it to skip sleep in order to take down the other guilds we hated so much. On top of that, there was a 'political forum' for the game.. so you really had a chance to argue with everyone.

LARP'ers. /shudder

Live Action Role Players. one of my ex-girlfriends was into it. she took me to do it once, and I was totally weirded out (this coming from a guy who's played D&D since 4th grade).

as far as MMORPG's go, though, definitely EverQuest.

Ogre Battle for SNES/Super Famicom, but it was also released in North America.

I used to make weapons and "play swords" as a kid, but I outgrew that. (or I got a nintendo for christmas 😉 )

It's always weird to see adults playing like kids.
