which midrange card to get

X700 pro is $124 at monarch. Now I know the 6600GT is faster but the cheapest one I can find is the evga for $165.

Is the 6600GT worth an extra $41?

I have no interest in playing DOOM3 but it seems the 6600GT is even faster in HL2. But is it worth the premium?

6600GT is faster, x700pro is cheaper.

It's up to you man, $41 is a considerable percentage of the 6600GT price, go check some benchmarks and make the decision if the performance is worth it.

Ultimately you have to make the decision on whether the performance is worth it.

To the previous posters, well the 6800GT is faster in pretty much everything, I'd say it's worth the premium.... the 7800GTX is faster in pretty much everything, I'd say it's worth the premium....

Everyone has their price limit that they will pay for the performance. The statement that any performance imporvement is worth any price is a ridiculous statement indeed.

Concillian thanks for that reply. Indeed I was afraid that people would say 6600GT just because it was a more powerful card. If a 6600GT is worth $165 then the question arises is it an X800NP at $195 a better deal? I'm just trying to get the best card for the money and anything $100-$200 is probably fair game.

6600gt will be the minimum in a year. x700 won't be enough, probably.
