So my work is willing to pay for the training courses and tests associated with getting my first cert. I'm an application developer (.NET/SQL) and have been doing this for about 3-4 years but have yet to apply for a cert. There seem to be alot of paths that Microsoft provides but it looks like something in the MCPD category is what I should be aiming for. My work initially suggested an MCSD but it is supposedly phasing or is already phased out for 2009?

Does anybody have any suggestions and recommendations on which cert I should get?

Just get the easiest one for your ability level. No one really cares about developer certs anyway. Everyone knows this.

Database certs. I have my mcse/mcsa. I passed the SQL administration exam too. Never got around to the SQL design one though, so I never got my mcdba (which is now retired). But I would definately say Database stuff first because most apps have db backends that could be using any number of front end techs to access it. A database core set will help you in any future languages, develeopment, etc that you learn or work with. If your db skills are solid, you're better off.
