Hello,
I am looking to purchace a new AMD system..
XP3200 (AMD Athlon XP 3200+ "Barton", 400MHz FSB, 512K Cache Processor - Retail)
MOBO (ASUS nForce2 Ultra 400 Chipset Motherboard for AMD Socket A CPU, Model "A7N8X-E Deluxe)
And am unsure which memory to go with , I was told to get 3500 (433mhrz) momory instead of 3200(400mhrz) but the price jump is a bit large , here are two brands Ii decided to choose from (below) is there going to be much of a difference between the two ? can someone educate me in my decision ,maybe you can direct me to different brands .
by the way if it matters this system will be mainly for gaming.

I know this wasn't your question but why are you getting the barton 3200? A A64 isn't much more expensive and the it's not like the xp3200 oc's well...

I've heard there are compatiability issue's with various programs including XP , that is probably why it is comprable in price i am guessing.
besides there really aren't any 64 bit programs out there yet , i will wait till there are more games made in 64bit.
i am not sure about the architechture of the two chips though, being that one is better then the other.

only onder 64bit OS everything else runs fine.

my vote goes for the OCZ and it runds great with my K8V Deluxe and 3200+ but I say get the A64. It's much faster than the Barton 3200+

Are you planning on running your processor and ram above 200fsb? If your not then it's just wasted money to get anything above pc3200. Even then that OCZ memory would propably go above 200fsb quite easily.

OCZ Enhanced Latency Series Dual Channel Gold Revision 2 DDR PC-3700

I got ^^^ some and it is absolutely amazing RAM.

Runs at 466 at 2.5, 3, 3, 5 and I can go higher (much) but am limited by my CPU.

Thanks all , I will probably go with the Kingston brand , a little more but it sounds like it may be better for overclocking ,I may or may not overclock ,I am sure it will be fine for now (at least for 6-9 months ) that seems to be the time that PC parts become outdated (slow).
One other thing though , can anyone explain what the Cas Latency #'s mean ? i know what the first number means but what abouit the rest. and does the Kinston #'s represent a better set of number's then the OCZ brand?

Kingston HyperX Series
Cas Latency: 2-3-3-7-1T

OCZ Performance Series
Cas Latency: 2-3-3-6

:). dont get me wrong kingston and ocz are good but...I personally like the mushkin line.

from the current selection of 754 mobos out their and research I have done....if I had to build at this moment I would probably get the MSI KT8-Neo FIS2R. Make sure you know that sometimes the VIA boards are known to be problematic when it comes to ram you may not be able to get the 222 the mushkin can deliever and have to degrade it to 232 with the A64 line

but if you can I would try to wait a week or two till the Nforce-250 boards come out from the Mobo manufactures. Based of the review on the front page today, I would rather have one of those.

again this is just just my humble opinion. you may want to visit amdmb.com and do some research to help make a more sound decision.

edit...btw here is a good article to read on what the rest of the timings on memory mean.
