The comp is strictly for gaming... will go for a @ 4.2ghz OC on air cooling. Will not OC the memory or vid card.

Which specific memory would you get with this? Or, should I wait until the memory QVL comes out from Asus for that MB?

Thanks for any input.

Better idea: don't waste tons of money on overpriced motherboards expecting 4.2 GHz on air.

Get something less ridiculous for the mobo, & put the money saved toward cooling (perhaps water?), because that's what's going to hold back your OC, not the mobo.

As for RAM, i've sadly discovered it's rather difficult to get speeds really high stably on X58 due to how the QPI speed/uncore speed/RAM speed all tie together, so i'd say a good DDR3-1600 kit is more than fine.

From a quick glance @ newegg, this kits looks the best if you don't mind spending some money.

Note heatspreaders are taller than they need to be; don't get these if it'll hinder your CPU cooling options.

Thx for memory recommendation.

Based on the purpose of this comp for my son and me... then which MB would OC great and be high-quality, but be 'less ridiculous' price-wise, as you say...

The one in my sig.

It's not that there's anything wrong with buying $300+ X58 mobos, it's simply that it's rather unnecessary at least based on your needs as i understand them.
Primarily, you end up paying for a name, bling etc, not quality or overclockability.

Yeah that's a nice kit.

Of course, the X58 people are going to flip out over the idea of you not getting 3x2 or 6x2 GB.

I'd likely even lean toward suggesting sticking w/ a 3x2 GB kit unless you need the extra RAM.

Yup, I linked it wrong... was looking for the 6gb(3x2)...

So far, have you felt your Gigabyte MB is as good/better than any other MB? It's just that I've used Asus for the last @ 10 yrs or so, since the old Abit BH-6...
