Hey guys,

I'm thinking of building a new PC specifically for gaming, and am wondering which RAM should I get.

The components I'm getting are:
R9 290 GPU
i7 4790k CPU
Asrock Extreme4 Mobo

Here's the list I'm looking at:
http://au.pcpartpicker.com/parts/memory/#s=302400&sort=d7

Also this is the store I'm using since I can get a special price there:
https://www.umart.com.au/umart1/pro/index.phtml?bid=9

I've set it specifically to 8GB DDR3-2400 CAS10, since a alot of the games I play are very CPU intensive
and some not even multi core optimized, like mount & blade, total war, arma etc.

And higher frequency have shown to have a pretty big performance increase in some of the benchmarks
for those games.

I'm wondering which one on that list provides the best performance? And also overclocking ability as well?
Also which works better for the haswell refresh cpu I'm using?

As there's too many different brands like G.skill, Corsair etc. and even different versions like Tridant, Ripjaws etc.
so it's pretty confusing.

So which one should be the best for my build? Appreciate any help in this matter!

G.Skill Trident X Series looks like the best value

its possible 2x8g ram will provided a bigger performance benefit than 4790k vs 4690k for those games simply due to them being double sided dimms (chips on both sides of the stick) which increases the ram\cpu performance a bit more
where as the i7 hasnt got much benefit over the i5 for games that use 4 threads or less once you oc them

if you dont want to oc and care more about slightly lower power use than performance per $

maybe you should have just made the one thread instead of one for each part
something like this would make a better value gaming build for overclocking

Intel I5-4690K $305
Gigabyte Z97MX-Gaming 5 $178
G.Skill 16G(2*8G) DDR3-2400 Dual Channel [TDX] F3-2400C10D-16GT $228
Crucial MX100 256G SSD $139
SeaSonic G-550W 80Plus Gold Modular $111
Cooler Master MT Case N200 $48 (two new 120mm fans in the front at some point will help with overclocking)
Noctua NH-D14 $89

MSI R9290-Gaming-4GD5 $399 good overclocker and performs well at res over 1080p but uses a lot of power and as such pumps out a lot of heat
eVGA 04G-P4-1972-KR GTX 970 SuperClocked 4GB $479 much more efficient and performs better than the 290 at 1080p but the reference hsf may be louder
Gigabyte GTX 970 GAMING 4GB $525 fast efficient card and a great overclocker but then it costs a lot more than the 290
