Which memory speed for asus P5E

I plan on buying a Asus P5E mobo, E8400 chip, 4 gigs RAM and don't plan to OC. Which memory speed should I consider getting 800 or 1066? I've been reading about people using 1066 on these boards and getting a lot of stability and booting problems. Should I stick with the stable 800 or take a risk and get 1066?

PC6400 (DDR2 800) is more than enough with that system.

Would this ram also apply for the Gigabyte Ga-P35-DS3L LGA 775 ?
