Which Memory for Asus P5W DH?

Hello everyone.

Just bought the P5W DH and an E6600. Going to build this rig for myself, looking for a stable, fast "out-of-the-box" machine. Do not plan on overclocking it.

My questions are: Are there any brands that play better than others with this motherboard? And two, is DDR2 800 overkill given I'm not going to overclock this machine, or should I always go as fast as possible anyway?

Thanks for any suggestions...

Go with the modules that utilize Micron D9 chips. (D9GMH, D9GKX to be specific) You may need to search a bit around since memory vendors don't like to disclose the IC information. DDR2-800 isn't an overkill even though you're not OC'ing, especially now that the price difference isn't such a big deal. The said ICs (Micron) scale very well with voltages (1.8~2.4 under normal condition) so you won't have much trouble when it comes to compatibility.

Aaahhh...thanks, guys!! This info will be a big help.

Hope to get the rest of my parts this coming weekend. Can't wait to get this rig up and running!

Lopri,

Got one question for 'ya...if I go with Ballistix-brand memory, which is made by Crucial/Micron, that should have the D9 chips you're reccomending, right?

Thanks for the info...

I think so, yes. Ballistix DDR2-800 should be D9GMH. These should have no problem booting @1.8V and most should have no problem OC'ing over 1000MHz with CL4 @2.3~2.4V.
