I am building a new system with a XP2100+ that I purchased from newegg.com to go with my new motherboard, Epox 8RDA+.

For cooling I got the Thermalright SK-7 heatsink with a 80mm ThermalTake Smart Case Fan II to go with it.

I also ordered an Allied 450W PS as well.

Now, all I need is to purchase some memory, and don't know which I really need. I want to keep costs minimal and don't want to pay the price of the high end stuff. But. I do want to get good enough memory to overclock the XP2100 succesfully to around 2.1-2.2ghz.

I saw 2 deals so far from the Hot Deals that would fit my budget:

1) Kingston ValueRam PC2700 512MB from GoogleGear for $74 shipped
2) Kingston HyperX PC3000 512MB from ExcaliburPC for $106 shipped

Now, of course the HyperX PC3000 is going to be the better memory here, but what I want to know is if the ValueRam PC2700 will be good enough for what I'm trying to do. I just want to overclock past the 2 Ghz mark, and at max, to 2.2GhZ. I would much rather go with the cheaper PC2700, because if the HyperX PC3000 isn't really necessary for my goal, that I don't want to fork over the extra $32.

So, basically, can someone tell me if the ValueRam is good enough for overlclocking. If not, I guess I have no other option than to go ahead and buy the more expensive stuff.

I would go with the HyperX, it'll give you more flexibility and also allow you to run at tighter timings.

It might also fix your CAPS LOCK KEY :p

for 100 dollars I went with 256 of Corsair XMS 3200 instead of 512 of kingston, guess we will see how much that sucks in the future =) I've been running on 256 for a while with little issues, but if your going for performance using a lot of programs at once, go for the 512 of hyperx

if u want to OC that 2100+, u could just bump it to 166 fsb and then its 2157mhz and all u need is PC2700 ram to keep the prices low...

i would just hope that allied psu will be ok.
