I'm thinking of getting an Opty 165 but I don't know what motherboard to get. I was thinking of getting the BIOSTAR TForce 6100-939 since it has pretty good reviews on Newegg but it doesnt say anything about being compatible with Opterons. The only MBs ive seen that say Opteron all cost over $200. Do I need one of those MBs to go with the 165?

Probably not. Your board may post with an "unknown cpu" but still work. Check for "cpu support" on the manufacturer's website before ordering.

Any of teh ASUS A8N series of motherboards should handle the Opteron. I've got an A8N-SLI Deluxe and it had an Opteron in it at one time with no problems. Shouldn't think any ASUS board of that series (A8N-SLI, SLI Deluxe, SLI Premium, etc. ) would have any problem at all.......and the SLI-Premium is well under $200...more like $132 at Newegg And I know it doesn't specifically SAY Opteron on Newegg's site, but it does work quite well....recognizes the cpu correctly and everything.
