Which MB should I get

Hi, I'm getting a new computer will be using XP1600+, that I will overclock as much as I can,so I just wonder which MB will do the job for me. Also wonder what RAM to get.

Thankful for any help

Micael

I coupled a 1600+ AGOIA with the 8K3A and have it@166fsb(1/5 divider keeps AGP/PCI in spec), default Vcore (actually as low as 1.71 under load) and stable for weeks now crunchin' SETI 24/7. I only had 2100Crucial to use so since it's already@166mhz I'm not pushing it any harder for now, but you could pick up the 8K5A2 with USB 2.0, 1/5 divider, DDR333, and a 512mb stick of Crucial 2700DDR and be styling. You can get a great deal on the Crucial by going here it's 15% off, maybe a 10-20$ coupon, and free 2nd day shipping, a hard deal to beat.

Thanks DAPUNISHER, I will look at the MB and the RAM. You don't think that I should go with PC2700 or higher, I don't know how much price DIFF there is and how much more preformance I would get from that.

Thanks Micael

i agree the 8k3a+ is a great overclocking board 🙂

but just for your info the new 8k5a2 and 8k5a2+ are in stores (basically the same as its older brother the 8k3a+ but the new ones use the newer southbridge and they have usb2.0 support

Actually I mentioned you should get the 8K5A2 in my first post 😉 He answered your question by saying it has USB 2.0 support which the 8K3A does not.

also the new southbridge has 10/100 lan (the old southbridge may have it also... but if so i dont know of any boards that took advantage of it... all the other kt333 boards ive seen used a 3rd party chip if they had onboard LAN, something like the realtek)

So how is the Epox compared with the Abit KX7. Right now I have a Epox 8KTA3 133, with a 1,33 GHz Athlon. And it works great, haven't done much OC but I tried 1,45 GHz without problem.

Micael

they compare pretty similar
in the last year or two i think epox has passed abit in having the best overclocking boards 🙂

i used to have an 8kta3 like yours... i loved it, but i did notice a good bit of a performance increase with my current 8k3a+

I rest my case
you should stop doing that, you are cutting off the supply of oxygen to your brain 😛 This is the CPU/Processor and Overclocking forum, get it yet? OOOOOverClockiiiiinnngggggg get it now?

DAPUNISHER, it seems to be my day for getting cussed at by all people. While I know what STFU is, what is LMAO?

So ant80 do you have any suggestions about what MB and RAM I should use to get some great OVERCLOCKING or do you just have nothing better to do than to complain about this thread.
And if I may ask you where should I have posted this question.

Thanks Micael 😕
