I am looking to buy a new mb for my little brothers pc and was wondering if I should get a ecs k7vza, or a abit kt7a ? He doesnt have a ton of dough and he wants a athlon 1.4 chz proc for it !
I just want some feedback as to which is the better MB !
Thanks again !

the MSI K7 Master is sweet... around $140 USd

Check pricewatch.com you might find it cheaper...

If you go with Integrated video with a Chaintech 7AIVL, that's the KLE133 for $69, and adding a riser card for the ACR slot for $19 lets you use the built in modem and LAN from the chipset, at http://www.directron.com/7aivl.html Always good experiences with these people, and at this same place you can get a smaller uATX case to save even more money. Using the InWin V500 lets you have a small case but with a full size power supply.

Typically people would rather have a fast PC, than a gamer one. These people do play some games, just not the latest. If he is that kind of person, here is a solution. Hope you get a good heatsink for that hot 1.4 too. Hope you have a good 250 or 300 ps for it too.

In my opinion I would pick an Iwill motherboard. KK266, KK266-R,KA226,KA266-R,or the new KK266+. All support up to 1.5GHZ and higher, plus the ones with the -R, have built in RAID. How can you beat that? I'm using a KA266-R, and I have had not a single problem with it, also it was cheap! The most expensive board was the KA266-R for $145, and the cheapest was the KK266 for $110. The KA's take DDR, and the KK take PC133 SDRAM. One thing you can beat is the built-in 4.1 sound, and the new KK266+ has built in 5.1 sound! But of course, this is only MY opinion.

I have the ECS and love it. I often wonder why anyone that wasn't overclocking would pay more than double for other boards. The ECS is really a quality board.

I only am going to get the epox, abit or ecs board no other board really interests me I dont want onboard video and sound isnt a big deal !
I have a geforce 3 going into this machine so on board video is not even considered to be a viable option and really I dont even want the on-board sound since I have a sound blaster live platinum,
So if there is any advice on one of these 3 thanks , for all other boards please wait until my next system !

Thats about it ! Like I said earlier in this posting that I am doing a new sytem (sort of ) for a family member and was just wondering about these boards !

dammit why doesnt the kk266+ have ddr capability
that would definitely be my board of choice if it did, but the 5.1 isnt enough to pull me away from the epox
