Building a system for someone, the rest of the system is pretty much decided on, I just don't know which motherboard to use..

The system will not be overclocked at all, and probably never be upgraded to a 800mhz FSB cpu.. But I was thinking this motherboard would be good because of the SATA, Firewire, usb2.0,etc

Was going to use a P4 2.4B (533mhz fsb) and 512 PC2700 (2x 256meg dimms, possibly pc3200 if it makes any difference with a 533fsb cpu?) and a Seagate 120gig 8 meg SATA drive,etc

Intel chipsets won't let you use 400MHz memory bus with a 533MHz frontside bus. They're locked to only 333MHz memory unless you use an 800MHz FSB. However, in dual-channel mode, they'll be locked to only 266MHz, because that provides the same bandwidth as the 533MHz FSB.

Unless the system needs the absolute best memory performance, an 845PE board would be more economical and have just as many features. The SATA controller won't be integrated into the chipset of course, but again whether that's very important depends on the exact needs of the user.

thanks for the reply..

I'm glad I ended up using the Asus P4PE with the onboard gigabit/firewire/sata, and used the money saved on a slightly faster cpu.. 🙂
